I was elated that the President came out in such strong support of Miguel today. He is not backing down to the partisan, lying, hypocritical RATS!

We need to target key democrat Senators that are pretty vulnerable like Blanche Lincoln D-AR, Ernest Hollings D-SC,
John Edwards D-NC, Thomas Daschle D-SD, Patty Murray D-WA,Barbara Boxer, D-CA, Byron Dorgan D-ND, Harry Reid D-NV, Russ Feingold D-WI, Evan Bayd D-IN.
You can get the addys at this site: www.nrsc.org/nrscweb/estrada/senators.shtml
A nice letter or three to these gentlepersons explaining why they should support Mr. Estrada would be nice.

Let's keep the pressure on the Democrats. Below are three things you can do today to help put an end to this filibuster.
1) Sign our petition. If you have already done so please forward this message and tell others that they can sign our petition by visiting:
http://www.nrsc.org/index.cfm?FuseAction=SignUp.Home&Petition_id=41
2) Let Democrats know that their treatment of Miguel Estrada will not be forgotten. Write to Democrat Senators and let them know that you will be working to see that they are defeated in 2004. To see a list of vulnerable Democrat Senators as well as their contact information please visit:
http://www.nrsc.org/nrscweb/estrada/senators.shtml
3) DONATE TO THE NRSC. Your donation will go to making sure that we have the necessary resources to expand on our Senate Majority in 2004. To make a donation via our secure online server please visit:
https://donate.nrsc.org/index.cfm?mode=account&category_meta_id=349
Thank you for your support of the Republican Party. Together we can make America a better place to live, learn, work and raise our families.
With warm regards, I remain
Gratefully yours,
Senator George Allen

I saw the speech.
Bush was clear and determined in his support for Estrada...it was great to hear.
Even if it doesn't help Estrada get confirmed, I believe this publicity greatly increases the political price Democrats will pay not only for opposing him, but for their reprehensible and desperate tactics.

As rabid as the RATs were these last three days, I would say he will be confirmed. We are not far from reaching our goal to have enough votes to demand a vote!

Yet, his nomination is being delayed and stalled by Democratic senators. His nomination has been stalled for two years. They're blocking the vote on this good man for purely political reasons. The senators are applying a double standard to Miguel Estrada by requiring him to answer questions that other judicial nominees, over time, have not been forced to answer. And that is not right, and that is not fair. Thanks for the post. GW's comments are right on target.

The President's comments were right on target, but I think he's approaching this the wrong way. I'll post details soon.

OK.
To: Victoria Delsoul
Pointing out that the Democrats are opposing the Estrada nomination for political reasons is going to generate the same kind of "So what?" response that resulted when it was proven that Bill Clinton had perjured himself and obstructed justice in a Federal civil suit and criminal grand jury investigation.
Instead, someone (perferably not someone directly connected to the White House, for political reasons) should make the case that the Democrats are opposing the Estrada nomination simply because they don't like minorities. Period.

someone (preferably not someone directly connected to the White House, for political reasons) should make the case that the Democrats are opposing the Estrada nomination simply because they don't like minorities. Period. Well, I don't think many people would believe that, unless they emphasize that the Democrats don't like CONSERVATIVE minorities
To: Victoria Delsoul
You're right, but an ad campaign that made no mention of Estrada's political leanings would be so thoroughly effective, wouldn't it?
It would be so breathtaking in it's audacity that it would seem to be taken right from the Democratic playbook.
Flashback to the Clarence Thomas nomination process . . . and imagine an ad campaign along these lines:
DEMOCRATS VOW TO OPPOSE AFRICAN-AMERICAN GENTLEMAN IN SUPREME COURT BID.
"His treatment of women is disgraceful," Ted Kennedy says . . .
To: Alberta's Child
LOL, that's an idea. I like it.
