Can we inject even more spice into this thread by debating how Lott would have handled this? I know you were just having some fun, but let's don't. In the end Trent Lott was a team player, is still serving faithfully in the Senate, so let's heal any still lingering wounds over that. Its the Dems we want to beat, and on this one it will take every possible vote.

GOP has no choice - if Estrada nomination is successfully bottled up, then Tommy is still in charge.
To: Havoc
He should have done this on Friday night. =)

But our guys won't be getting any sleep either, will they? True, but they have the comfort of knowing they will win.

Frist could continue to do this until all the Senators are present and then some Republican will disappear and he could do it again! LOL ... I LOVE THESE REPUBLICAN SENATORS!

Are they forcing a filibuster,or are they voting on Monday? I'm very confused!Frist ahs done this motion before. He asks unanimous consent for a reasonable amount of time to debate ending with an up or down vote. This avoids a direct vote and can be done quickly unless a senator objects. Frist knew that some rat would object.

have a feeling it's going to be a looooooong night I have the same feeling. Time to make some popcorn!

(Yes, they can actually sleep in shift. Just so enough of them are there for a quorum. It's the "dem that must be there to make the quorum." The republican will be close by in case we do get a vote.
To: Otta B Sleepin
No, but I am sure that OUR guys slept this afternoon, knowing what was planned. The Rats, listening to the clever leak through Carl Cameron that they would go home because of the snowstorm, did NOT sleep.
I love it when a plan comes together!

Frist tabled a motion to do the following: a) have a short debate, b) vote. They are trying to get a quorum present to vote the issue and Frist is pushing his hand. Frist is keeping them present to force a vote.

You may be right! It has been so long since they had a full blown filibuster that I forget but it sure sounds like something Sen Frist would do. He was pulling no punches tonight!

I'd keep their arses there all night and day until the congresscritters voted up or down. I think that may be exactly what Frist is trying to do. I love this. Make the Rats grumble and suffer for acting so disgustingly to avoid a vote on this nomination.

Frist was a surgeon - he's well experienced at working 110 hours a week, with 5 hours of sleep on a good night.

Ah, J Golden Kimball, one of my favorites. :)
