Moderate Islam is strong and will prevail.
Even though some here in the states and the hard-liners and radicals in the muslim world hate the idea.

"It is vital that we in the West understand," added Zuckerman, "that the real conflict is not one between civilizations, but rather a conflict within the Muslim civilization.Too bad a Christian has to die for their internal struggle. The promise of moderate Islam, to me, is a myth perpetuated to get our guard down. I don't buy it.

Someone has to keep re-assuring 'the sheep' and keep them passive and calm
while the others are getting their throats cut...
Their('the sheep's') time will come - soon enough

You are not alone. Moderate - Islam is by definition an oxymoron.

Meet some of the faces of moderate Islam.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, leader of the Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, left, is applauded by Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, center, and party member Yasemin Kumral before his speech during a meeting at the parliament in Ankara, Turkey, Tuesday Feb. 25, 2003. Turkey delayed a parliamentary vote on allowing in tens of thousands of U.S. troops as marathon talks on the conditions of the deployment dragged on with reports of progress but no final breakthrough.

Just as many in the West seemed to be resigning themselves to the inexorable force of militant IslamLots of us don't see militant Islam as an inexorable force; we're going to prove it also. They'll curse the day they ever attacked the United States.

I always try to emphasize the distinction I make between Islamists and Muslims. The former want to destroy America and conquer the world as well, and the latter just want to get on with their lives as best they can. Or, put another way, many, many Muslim Iranians are itching to overthrow the Islamist government in Iran, for example.

Refine your definitions just a little more to Islamofacists. These are the thugs who want to kill Jews, Americans and other non muslims. Then, they will kill the muslims who don't buy their extreme violence.

A most remarkable article.
Turk, I believe the shared ethnicity referred to is Turkish, is it not ? Isn't the language spoken in the "stans" part of the Turkish language group, and the shared ancestry Turkomen ?

Lots of us don't see militant Islam as an inexorable forceYeah, but lots of us don't live in Western Europe; it's different there, people are more or less resigned to the idea that there will be a lot of Muslims living there and they will be radicals.

If the reports coming from the US Turkish negotiations are true that the US won't agree to collecting heavy arms she is/ will be distributing to the Kurds in Northern Irak, and if further reports coming from the Turkish military are true that the US is distributing anti-aircraft weaponry to the groups in northern Irak (whose aircraft for?), then I wonder what the discreet message of this peculiarly timed Jewish-Turkic meeting really could be..
