Not meaning to sound alarmist, but I think that we've just been hit. Fox News is talking to a former supervisor(?) who worked at that facility. It's a storage area, not a refinery. There's nothing there that could generate the conditions necessary for an explosion. (Unlike a refinery which is heating the product.) It's also cold there. Shots from a news chopper show snow on the ground. Cold further reduces the chances of an explosion at a storage facility. It also looks like the site of the incident is right on the water; a place where it's more than possible to approach the facility. Driving a vehicle into the plant isn't easy, but piloting a small boat up to it is another matter.

It could be a diversion. Hope nothing else happens downtown.

My thinking exactly. Didn't the expert say that a residential area, although it's "rural" is 1/4 a mile away??

Good grief. They don't have to strike. We give them credit for everything anyway.

In the Hampton Roads area of Va. (Norfolk/Va.Beach), our Exxons have been out of gas for days because of all the snow to the north of us. This may turn into more than a minor inconvenience.

Probably Not. I watched a refinery fire in Catanya Bay, Sicily, ni 1979 from my ship at a distance of about 1/2 mile. Very impressive. Unfortunately refineries are very dangerous in and of themselves. Odds are that this was just an accident.

Remember last week during Valentine's Day there was a small boat floating around the Golden Gate Bridge and the cops were investingating it? The boat just disappeared and nobody knew what happened.
Now we may have figured it out!
