i don't see the hurtle being money, ability, or logistics.
i see the problem being national resolve, and that is the context i asked the question in... buchanan and tancredo have been asking why we aren't doing this for a long time...
i agree with your post.

We have the money, that's pretty obvious. 30 billion would sure go a long way towards hiring some more Border Patrol agents, wouldn't you say? George needs to grow some political balls.
It does not take many hours to buy mexican garb and learn some rudamentary spanish. after this I defy most people to pick arabs from mexicans in the great American southwest. What is happening is Political Correctness being applied to a voting group to split some hispanics into the republican camp. But eventually the Bush administration decided to register middle eastern students, so some form of border control may happen when the fear of political damage due to terrorism is high enough. B TW, political problems can be deflected by closing the canadian border at the same time.

"Since Sept. 11, 2001, the Border Patrol has refused to disclose how many people from countries other than Mexico have been arrested at the border, citing "national security."Since when has ignorance become a matter of national security?

Believe me. Securing the Borders isn't going to be an easy task Ya know I had a thought, let me know what you think.
Since it would seem to be bash the US month, why dont we
pull our thirty seven thousand troops off the Korean peninsula
And create a new base for them just east of San diego
pull our seventy thousand troops out of germany and place them in a base or two around sierra vista Az. And/or del rio Tx.
After weve secured our borders w military bases and training areas
we could accept applications from countries (if any) that would like our
assistance and/or presence under conditions of conduct. eg. You want us here, this is how we expect you to behave
Dont like that? Then have a good life and good luck learning Chinese
or arabic
Just a thought
whatdaya think?

That sound workable to me, especially if we take all federal land down there and use it for military bomb and firing ranges.

methinks its a plan. I would buy into it. I have stated for years that "our" allies need to spend more of their "GDP's" on their own defense instead of spending the USA's. Time for them to stand upor fall down.

Given my grumpiness at the moment I'm in favor of reducing all foreign bases down to 1000 personel and bringing the rest home. Then start some new bases on our borderlines about 100 miles apart. Fill them with INS, Customs, Border Patrol and soldiers, keeping the troops as trained killers and the rest as cops. Keep the troops five miles in from the border and let the cops decide who should come into the US of A. Mess up and they would tell the troops to be on the lookout for "XXX", this description, kill on sight.
I think a program like that would bring this invasion of illegals to a screehing halt. Once the pissants know we are serious they would be willing to obey our laws!
