Nuclear War At Any Moment - N. Korea

Relations between North and South Korea are now so grave that military commanders have warned a nuclear war could break out at any moment.

This follows an incident in which a North Korean fighter jet briefly crossed into South Korea but retreated after being confronted by two southern jets.

Anti-aircraft missile units have been put into battle position in the South Korean capital of Seoul

Only a few days ago the North threatened to abandon the armistice keeping peace along the countries' tense border.

The incursion, the first by a North Korean military jet since 1983, increased jitters on the peninsula, where the North is locked in a dispute over nuclear weapons development.

KCNA, the North's state news agency and a mouthpiece of the regime, said the situation on the peninsula was now "so alarming that a nuclear war may break out at any moment."

Tension has crept up since October, when US officials said North Korea had admitted having a covert nuclear weapons programme.

Washington and its allies suspended fuel shipments, and the North retaliated by expelling UN monitors, taking steps to restart frozen nuclear facilities and withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.

Early this a.m. C-SPAM was broadcasting an AEI forum called Dangerous Liaisons: Russia and the Axis of Evil.

Henry Sokolski had some pretty interesting things to say about what Russia has been doing to make money last 15 years. He confirmed what I believe about N. Korea, Russia's influence with N. Korea is diplomatic, (since they got Bill Clinton to start feeding them and got them their nuclear wares)

N. Korea demands to deal one on one with US, he must think we owe him, wonder where he got that idea.

Mr. Sokolski presented N. Korea's Ill as being just that ill. A loose cannon. It seems it is anyone's guess what Ill will do and how far he would go. However, he did suggest that Russia was doing little to nothing to reign him in.

I do not see China as N.Korea's base, because their fear is that millions of hungry Koreas will flood their country if things get out of hand.

Well, if they (Russia) are not reigning him in, I wonder if its because they see some kind of payoff in that, or if they are not capable of doing it. After all, we have diplomatic relations with a lot countries, does'nt mean we have much influence over them...

Russia needs cash, and if N. Korea can divert our attention from Iraq, where Russia is owed alot of cash, all the better.

N. Korea making nuclear threats is a method of diverting attention. It isn't clear yet how far N. Korea is willing to go, kinda like a spinning top. Nor is it clear what Russia is going to do, they have been mum which seems to signal to US "are you scared yet?" "are you going to let us collect our cash?" Russia has her fingers in all this axis of evil and I doubt that she is too happy with the attention given to the three. Remember Russia is still trying to collect herself and the mindset of "communism" has not been erased.

I found it very interesting how President Bush put Putin on notice with the eye to eye statement and we could work together. By President Bush's actions he has put Russia on a hot seat and time will tell how Russia as a country will react.

Russia is now in bed with Iran helping them build nuclear power plants and Iran says it doesn't plan to send back material to build nuclear weapons. Iran wants nuclear weapons also and Syria plans the same.

Russia is like a frayed rope, there are many threads and without a central government in complete control the idea is to make money any way possible. There is nothing that they won't sell to collect cash. (probably thinking they can get it back in the future)

Take another look, we in America for the most part do not consider Russia as a threat, that is good for Russia, read through the threads most everyone is looking everywhere else but at Russia and Clinton.

Clinton was the leader of world socialism and his goal was to equalize all nations, India and Pakistan went nuclear in the 90's. The left in this country were thrilled to have N. Korea using the nuclear threat, WHY? Is it not amazing that the "LEFT" in this country gave N. Korea nuclear weapons, and yet seemed to be soooooo concerned about them having them.

Ok I could go on and on, just remember who is in control, our Heavenly Father and these things need be. I don't have documented evidence but I don't believe N. Korea will nuke US.

That makes sense. Trying to keep us out of Iraq without actually coming out in the light to oppose us (a la France), may have been enough to start the process.

Trouble is, can they stop it after the balloon goes up in the Gulf (or would they even want to)?

Real question is do they want to, especially if they come up short.

I believe that President Bush is going about it the right way, holding firm, not over reacting, keep cool head.

President Bush also seems to know whom is ultimely in control and in the face of all the slings and arrows being thrown isn't over reacting. What good would it serve N. Korea to nuke us, they need money and food? I don't think they are so far gone that they have forgotten this, just like a bully in front of his gang trying to start something.

Be ready and prepared, don't panic. We were protected through all of the Soviet Union's threats, even when we elected a socialist some of stayed strong.

No disagreement with ANYTHING in your post. I just have some reservations about the culture, and the megalomania of tyrants; from our perspective, the "logic" and "thought process" of asian dictators is nearly beyond our capacity to grasp, let alone understand.

I will refer back to my comparison with the Japanese situation in 1941. From our perspective, the escalating measures, sanctions, and statements were designed to stake out positions for a horse trade. From their side, it produced a situation that demanded no compromise or backing due to the loss of "face" that would inflict on the ruling junta. It made a war with certain defeat look more acceptable to them than compromising with us.

You and I logically understand that a full scale war initiated by the DPRK would be a national suicide pact for North Korea. From their perspective though, going out with honor can be the "better" alternative than losing stature to your underlings.

F'ing barbarians if you ask me...

Agree, we have a few homegrown megalomaniac tyrants and a couple of them want their power back and they should be watched as well. Personally considering the extent they tried to put socialism in, during their reign, I would put nothing past them to get back that power. (my opinion -pass out info to cause harm.)
