He is wrong on one point: There was an excellent Vietnam movie that was not so much "anti-war," although it did (like "We Were Soldiers") show the VC as separate from, and eventually taken over by, the North Vietnamese. This movie is "Siege of Firebase Gloria," with R. Lee Ermy as a sgt. of a recon platoon who ends up taking command of the firebase. GREAT movie.

Is that the exception that makes the rule?

The Siege of Firebase Gloria was a great movie. But the point made by the VC commander towards the end of the film was that Hanoi ultimately regarded the VC as a threat to its future rule of Viet Nam, and sought to spend the lives of its cadres in battles that they knew the VC would either lose or suffer drastic losses in a 'win'. Typical Communist policy at work. Murderous bastards, all.
