The left lacks a talkshow host with the charisma of Oliver North, who was convicted of lying to Congress over the Iran-contra affair... North was indicted in March 1988 on 16 Iran/contra charges... North stood trial beginning in February 1989 on 12 counts. On May 4, 1989, he was found guilty of three counts, including aiding and abetting obstruction of Congress, shredding and altering official documents, and accepting an illegal gratuity from Secord. North's convictions were vacated on July 20, 1990, after the appeals court found that witnesses in his trial might have been impermissibly affected by his immunized congressional testimony.
Left-leaning media half-truth (repeat often enough and it becomes The Truth). North's convictions were vacated, thus he has not been "convicted" of anything. I wonder how often this paper mentions Clinton was impeached?

One of the main reasons liberals do not have an audience on radio is:
Give a conservative a radio and he will listen to conservative talk radio.
Give a liberal a radio and he will listen to rap, hip hop, acid rock etc. nothing that requires thought.

What about Congress? Which is easier to make fun of? Is it easier to make fun of Maxine Waters or Bill Frist? Barney Frank or Tom DeLay? Yeah right. The liberal penchant for unintended self-parody is an amazing sight. The Dems made a campaign issue of a DUI Bush had as a young man, but compare the character of Bush to that of his predecessor in office-- The serial raping, perjury committing sociopath, Bubba Clinton and his Chief Enabler, Shrillery.
Do the Republicans have anyone to stack up against The Torch and his successor, Mumbles Lautenberg? Can conservatives point to any public officeholder with a degree of moral cowardice equal to Teddy Chappaquidick's? Are there any right-wingers as easy to run through the wringer than the Reverends without churches, Jackson and Tawana Sharpton?
Personally, I think this whole talk-radio thing will blow-up in the Dems faces. How long can they attack Iran-Contra, the dead Richard Nixon, and the 2nd Amendment before any liberal with 1/4 the gray matter God granted them just turns to NPR, The Voice of Socialists driving Volvos.
On another level, I see Dems as finally figuring out that McVein-Swinegold CFR will seriously screw them during the next election cycle. How can they get any of their spin out in the days just prior to an upcoming election? I think they're looking to talk-radio as a way around the restrictions placed on paid political speech by CFR. I think they're going to lose, Big Time....

... but these are [NPR] news magazines that aim to give a voice to both sides of an argument. There aim is piss-poor. As can be expected from any organization as rabidly anti-gun.

Rush Limbaugh initially achieved success because he filled a need - conservatives needed a place to turn to for a conservative analysis.
There is no such need amongst liberals - we are choked with liberal analysis in the print and on TV.
Rush Limbaugh continues to be successful amongst the many conservative talk show hosts because he:
1) provides factual information
2) provides direct reliable references for the facts
3) begins his analysis by combining facts, often by recalling long forgotten quotes or actions, or by establishing a pattern of actions.
4) his analysis can often be nothing short of brilliant
5) when he presents an opinion that might be short on facts, he makes it clear that its an opinion, but this is much more rare than what he is accused of.
6) lastly - he provides humor
Bill O'Reilly's radio show cannot compete against Rush Limbaugh because Bill O'Reilly presents a heavily opinionated show that is mostly short on facts - its fun to listen to every now and then, but one gets tired of listening to Bill O'Reilly opine. (His TV show works in a somewhat different format where the host presents a news item first and then debates it)
A liberal radio host will fail simply because liberalism requires one to ignore facts and rely on emotion. At best, a liberal radio show host will do as well as Bill O'Reilly's radio show, simply because people can only listen to pure opinion (one that is not backed up by facts) for only so long. A liberal talk show host who tries to counter Rush by concentrating on being funny, like Al Franken, will almost certainly tank - he will eventually offend all his listeners or will simply run out of material.

MICHAEL M. BATES.com: "MS. PRESIDENT ATTRACTING ONE VOTE AT A TIME"-Commentary by Michael M. Bates
(COMMENTARY SNIPPET: "Something newsworthy occurred while Ms. Moseley Braun was traipsing through Iowa. You wouldnt know it if you read the Washington Post or New York Times or Chicago Tribune. You wouldnt know it if you watch the network news on CBS, NBC or ABC.
You wouldnt know it if you read the Associated Press account of her visit. The AP delivers information 20 million words a day - to thousands of news outlets around the world.
In its 12-paragraph story, the AP didnt see fit to report how many voters came out in inclement weather to see our former senator. The closest it came was in a caption accompanying a picture, one that wouldnt be printed in many newspapers, of the exploring candidate in Des Moines on Saturday. It mentioned shed spoken "to a small group."
The Des Moines Register story revealed precisely how small that group was. Only one voter, a man who went to law school with her, showed up to cheer Carol on. About a dozen reporters were there, and a handful of Moseley Braun staffers. Thats what comprised the "small group."
I contend that anytime any legitimate candidate, particularly a former U. S. senator, can only attract one voter to a rally, the event is remarkable enough to warrant reporting. And I can virtually guarantee that if the candidate were Jeb Bush or anyone else slight right of center, the occasion would have received much more extensive coverage.") (February 20, 2003)
