First, apologies if anyone here has belittled Canada's soldiers -- your folks have hung tough with us in Afghanistan and long before.
To your point about world opinion: I think it's incorrect to assume the US doesn't care about world opinion. To the contrary, I think most of us would love to have world opinion on our side, and the anger you're seeing is our frustration and incomprehension that govts of erstwhile allies seem absolutely determined to oppose us no matter what we say or do. At some point, if we truly believe Hussein is an urgent threat (and we do, post 9/11), and we've tried everything we can to convince the world, in some cases to no avail, we have to make a choice: we either take out the threat, reluctantly without unanimous world opinion; or we live with the threat. The latter is no longer an option -- therefore, we have no choice.

I totally agree with you about Kuwait. Bush I cleaned up part of the ME. Bush II will complete the job and make the world a safer place for everyone.
Because, THANK THE LORD, the Bush family sees THE BIG PICTURE and they aren't fixated on some myopic "legacy" created out of whole cloth.

What a story!
You know, for our entire history we've been treated like that baby brother/sister that didn't have good sense. "Older" countries snicker at our "youth" and our so-called naive ways.
But who's the nation that is poked in the eye by the zealots? Not France, not Germany, no one but the good ol' US of A. We've saved other countries when they needed us, we've developed the most fantastic free market system - that has made us and our trade partners rich, we've poured Billions of dollars in aid to poorer countries.....
And they DARE to turn their backs on us now??? Incredible.

Does this mean we won't have to transport the Canadian troops using US planes and they won't plug into the US AWACS grid when they get to the battlefield?
Ouch.
Absent the few thousand Canadian troops with antiquated equipment I just don't know how we will manage.....

No body remembers but ,when we left Vietnam, the VC were destroyed and Nixon had stopped the North Vietnamize cold when they tried to take the South. The American Congress, after Nixon was gone, cut off all aid to Vietnam inculding any military assistance. Congress lost the war

Considering that the UK is joining us, and New Europe will be providing at least technical support, it's not going to be a solo act. Just "gently" remind that senile bat of a PM the Crown is part of this.

Those Canadian snipers would be a fine contribution to any action that is undertaken, they are the best in the world by a long shot. Other than that, the Coyote vehicles are top notch, and their Frigates are currently doing well in the middle east patrols, I don't get it. Canada has some decent specializations, I don't buy the argument that they have nothing to contribute. Everyone has something to contribute, the Aussies aren't giving much, but at least they are willing. That frog in charge up there is a disgrace.

I got interested in finding out about Canadian snipers and recalled hearing a story about them being offered the bronze star, so I looked it up and got some really good insight into their government's attutude towards war and their squeamishness. It really sounds like they're government are a bunch of hypocrites, especially in the idea that 'Canadians don't kill' check out this link from Snipers paradise (a really cool website BTW):

The only national political party in Canada which supports regime change in Iraq with or without a second United Nations resolution is the official opposition Canadian Alliance led by Stephen Harper while former leader Stockwell Day is the party's Foreign Affairs critic. We're the only Canadian party willing to shoulder-shoulder against the United Nations Security Council, if necessary, to bring down Saddam Hussein. We're also working to bring about non-violent regime change here in Canada too by defeating the Liberal Party in the next general election. If we accomplish that, Americans can be assured they'll have a strong ally in Canada on foreign policy and an honest negotiator for resolving bilateral issues like the softwood lumber dispute.
