I think it's time we turned the Japanese loose. With our blessing they could turn their military into a more offensive force, including the development of nukes. They are obviously never going to threaten us again, but they can be an effective balance in the region. They would be a valuable ally, and frighten the Chinese to no end. Probably to the point of forcing the Chinese to clamp down on NK.

They were fearless and effective opponents in WWII. If they are anywhere near as good as their grandfathers were, they will be excellent allies.
