Better to ask where and why he EARNED his NINE silver stars,...Put your (if you have one) DD214 against his. Don't always agree with him, but respect and defend his right to speak his mind, HE earned it the hard way...Some real hard charging pissants on this thread (the only place they have or ever will "hard charge"......

The cover story for Newsweek magazine for the week of January 21, 1991 was “We Will Win, But…” by “America’s Most Decorated War Hero”.

The only source for the claim "Most Decorated War Hero" is Hackworth himself.

First, all who have known real heros, know heros do not go around making ridiculous claims like this.

The U.S. Army disputes such a claim and when asked the Army spokesman explained it would be impossible to make such a designation because you can't compare the Medal of Honor to other medals, so the Army would dispute any man claiming he is the "Most Decorated War Hero"especially one who never received the Medal of Honor.

Since your buddy wants to make the claim, why don't you ask him to post a copy of the DD-214. Of course he doesn't have to. But then again he didn't have to invent a new decoration for himself, the Most Decorated War Hero Medal.

I don't have any medals, but my dad did. I didn't even know he had the medals until he died and I saw the newspaper clippings and the medals. He was in WWII, Korean War, and the VietNam war. He didn't go around bragging like Hackworth. He was a strong supported of this country and the military.

My son also served in the military - 10th Mountain. He was not in a major military conflict where he had the opportunity to be awarded any medals. Haiti and Bosnia were the only two conflicts he was sent to, but I have no doubt there are many brave men and women serving that will not be in direct conflicts, but would serve as bravely as Hackworth.

Hackworth's bravery does not give him a pass from criticism.
