My Morning Mantra
Posted on 02/16/2003 8:45:59 AM PST by Per-Ling
I am in the United States Navy, the greatest navy the world has ever seen, and serve my country with pride. I pass anti-war protestors who scream at my DOD sticker every morning. For 4 days of the workweek it doesn't affect me. But towards the end of the week, after 60 hours in a classroom, 30+ hours at home studying while neglecting my wife and 2 year old to learn a language most of those protestors have never heard of but have certainly heard of the atrocities of those who speak it, I can't help but be affected by those so unappreciative of this nation's caretakers.
Those of you in this Freeper community, who start my every with your analysis and humor, I salute you and the support you give our military. Let there be no doubt of this generation's willingness to stand for our peers who see fit to ignore their heritage. Instead of going to ladies nite at some hip downtown club, my classmates and I go to the Legion. It's great to be among those who get it. This site provides me the same fellowship.
But I serve those protestors as much as I serve my son. This oft-used poem in military ceremonies, helps keep my mind reminded of that.
God bless and hold you all..
My Name is Old Glory by Howard Schnauber
I am the flag of the United States of America. My name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world's tallest buildings. I stand watch in America's halls of justice. I fly majestically over great institutes of learning. I stand guard with the greatest military power in the world. Look up! And see me!
I stand for peace - honor - truth and justice. I stand for freedom I am confident - I am arrogant I am proud. When I am flown with my fellow banners My head is a little higher My colors a little truer. I bow to no one. I am recognized all over the world. I am worshipped - I am saluted - I am respected I am revered - I am loved, and I am feared.
I have fought every battle of every war for more than 200 years: Gettysburg, Shilo, Appomatox, San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome, the beaches of Normandy, the deserts of Africa, the cane fields of the Philippines, the rice paddies and jungles of Guam, Okinawa, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Guadalcanal New Britain, Peleliu, and many more islands.
And a score of places long forgotten by all but those who were with me. I was there. I led my soldiers - I followed them. I watched over them. They loved me. I was on a small hill in Iwo Jima. I was dirty, battle-worn and tired, but my soldiers cheered me, and I was proud.
I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible. I have been soiled, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country, and when it is by those with whom I have served in battle - it hurts. But I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stand watch over the uncharted new frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon. I have been a silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But my finest hour comes when I am torn into strips to be used for bandages for my wounded comrades on the field of battle, When I fly at half mast to honor my soldiers, And when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving mother at the graveside of her fallen son.
I am proud.
My name is Old Glory.
Dear God - Long may I wave.

God bless you for standing tall and playing your part.
Me and a bunch of SF FReepers with be showing the flag and lots of "Support Our Troops" signs today at the City Hall steps in SF. Against us might be 100,000 "retreads" who, as you have said, is there because there are brave and unselfish souls like yourself who are saraficing their valuable time away from their families to defend freedom adn liberty for the rest of us.
I want you and all your classmates to know that we are behind you all the way. Here is something dedicated to all of our military. As is with most Americans.
THE BROCHURE ON IRAQ TO COUNTER THE PEACENIKS AND TO INFORM REAL AMERICANS ON THE REAL REASONS WHY THE US AND OUR ALLIES ARE GOING TO IRAQ ... TO LIBERATE IRAQ!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

My family and I also say thank you. There are many who feel this way but we just don't get paid to go to the Communists rallies. Some of us even go to stand against them but they are pretty ignorant. It might give you some comfort but they were educated in government schools.

Forget the protestors, they aren't worthy of your time. Not because they question your cause, but because they are weenies that would faint if you tossed a firecracker twenty feet away from them. If a terrorist wanted to rape one of their mothers, momsie could save time by pulling down her panties while her precious little son is handing her over.
Remember that you aren't defending weasels like that, you're defending your family and mine. Thank you.

Rest assured that there are many more silent prayers of gratitude and prayers for your safety than there are shouts of protest. Thank you for your service to our Country.

A customer at CPAC asked why we did not have the "Support Our Military" License Plate Frame at the show. After all, we had the stamps, mugs, tees, mousepads, bumper sticker, magnets...etc with this image.
To my chagrin, I told her that I had not yet made such a product!
Right there on the spot at CPAC, this customer & myself created this "Support Our Military" License Plate Frame.
This past week, we made our first batch and I put one on my van just yesterday.

You are a hero. You trust your self to know what is right. There are many more true Americans than those people who mock you and your country. You have the courage not to take the easy road, and you understand freedom is a gift not ot be taken lightly. This is the most serious time for freedom. I hope you know how much you are respected by many people. I wish I was young enough to go with you, because I believe what you believe. No matter what happens, you are doing what must be done, and you know it in your heart. I am so proud that I live in a country that fine men like you live.

And how are these applied? ....with screws or is there glue on the back?
Thanks!

11" in width; 4.25" in height.
Normal screws that hold license plate are used although I guess double side adhesive tape would work also.
My van, a 2003 GMC Savanna only allows for the top 2 holes to be used. I used a wad of this putty-like stuff that my wife uses to hold Christmas decorations in place. This just secures the bottom in order that there is no flapping or slapping under speed conditions.
My wife's Honda 1998 Accord has the "One Nation Under God" license plate frame on the front of the car. This is secured with all four of the pre-existing bolts for the license plate.

Thank you for your letter. You and your peers are the reason we remain a free nation. My only hope is that someday, someway, I can serve you and yours in a fraction of the way you have served us. God bless you, I keep you, your precious family and your colleagues in my prayers and heart.

Your Brochure deserves it's own thread at the least and perhaps even to be included on the opening page of FR.
