The domestic terror alert jumps to 9/11 levels. Osama Bin Laden resurfaces. North Korea threatens a preemptive attack. The second Gulf War is about to begin. This is not the Apocalypse. But it is excellent preparation for it. You don't get to a place like this overnight. We are paying the wages of the 1990s, our holiday from history, when every major challenge to America was deferred. The chief aim of the Clinton administration was to make sure nothing terrible happened on its watch. Every can was kicked down the road: Iraq, North Korea, terrorism.

Charles should develop this essay into a book called "Holiday from History."

Krauthammer is simply the best ! I wish he were a regular panelist on Brit's show rather than a substitute. He & Mort Kondracke & Michael Barone would be awesome. Mort may not be one of us, but he really is "fair & balanced".

Good idea.

. . .of course Krauthammer isn't exactly one of us either having worked for Mondale & for the Carter adminstration. Maybe he's come over from the Dark Side. Regardless, his commentary is always insightful & always significant.

Excellent points!!! Also, what has to be remembered is that Hillary was an integral part of, and possibly the guiding component of, that last administration. And she may very well be the leader of the next administration!!!!!

I agree with you. He is the best. He needs to be heard and seen because these idiots out in Clintonland don't read. They think these protest groups are people representing them.

Yes~!!!!!!! This should be hammered home everyday for a long long time. Klintoon was sound asleep at his post. Actually it was worse than that. He was actively working to loot the country's arsenal and treasury.

Mort may not be one of us, but he really is "fair & balanced".Furthermore . . . (Mort's favorite filibuster word) I agree with you if he'd ever get to the point. But listening to him is like listening to a verbal recitation of War and Peace. I liken it to industrial-strength fingernails scraping a chalkboard.

Krauthammer has made one heck of a political migration from my first memories of him - which was that of a typical liberal. I don't quite know what happened - but now he is making conservative points far better than those who have always been with us. I just don't know if this was gradual - following the constant pendulum movement of the public - or comes as the result of a sudden epiphany.

I think that, as with David Horowitz, having come from the Left makes him more able to dissect the idiocy of the Left.

The question is: Can - and will - the civilized part of humanity disarm the barbarians who would use the ultimate knowledge for ultimate destruction? Within months, we will have a good idea whether the answer is yes or no.Let's say we have a better than even shot at it now that the Bush administration is running things.
Too bad they had to waste so much time taking out the Clinton garbage.

That is my gripe too - the liberals cannot state their opinion about anything - they seem to feel they must somehow qualify what they are saying before they can actually say it. Weird.
