You are very young; therefore, not too much personal knowledge in the past.

I'm 54 - like your dad probably - I've lived & worked in Hamburg, Germany 1979-82. I continued to work for German companies even when I returned to the good ole USA.

Back then, President Reagan was regularly derided as a "cowboy" "idiot" "warmonger" "actor" ...etc.

The streets of Hamburg were regularly filled with "Anti-Nuke" "Peace" "Anti-US" parades and protests. Sometimes, the rallies in Hamburg alone were 50,000! (Hamburg is a city of 1.1 million).

I saw many protesters in death masks, "Nuclear winter" outfits, skeletons...etc.

Why were they so against Reagan and the USA?

Well, Reagan had the balls to force Germany, despite European peace protest pressure, to accept the Pershing II missiles on their soil.

The German/European protestors were also against Reagan's policy of supporting the Contra's against the "for the little people" Sandanistas.

So I ask you my young Freeper....who has history shown to be correct?

Was it the throngs in the European streets or was it a courageous, committed, President Reagan?

See my point.

Last comment on anything European.

If they are against it, we should be for it.

I learned that living and working there.

You know, I am getting tired of "Europe" being confined to only Britain-France and Germany. Eastern Europe is a part of Europe, and they are thoroughly ON OUR SIDE!!! When all those Western Europeans were protesting us in the 70s, almost every single resident in Poland, Czechoslovakia, etc. was praying for the US to prevail, because they know what it's like to live under a dictatorship. These Euro-weenies in the West (thanks to the USA) have never known such a thing. Their opinion means nothing, as far as I'm concerned. New Europe is going to walk all over Old Europe, because they value the things that Old Europe merely take for granted.

Sorry for the late reply, had to get lunch.

I find it interesting that some regarded President Reagan as the do President Bush...maybe it's a conservative, common sense ideology they hate... (i'm talking of the people protesting in Europe, etc. I already know that our country is full of a bunch of idiots, I had to go to school with them)

I see your point about doing the opposite of what Europe does...my only concern is the times that we're living in. The more technology grows, the more I get nervous...we do not have room to deal with the likes of n. korea and iraq, etc... on the flip side, I fear that we do not have room to deal with them...

The description of the protests as the "largest" is plain silly. Still, the numbers, if true, are not neglible.

However, given the significant muslim minority population in these countries, I wonder about the ethnic/cultural make-up of the crowds.....
