South Korea is feckless, and Japan is precluded from having offensive weapons as part of their World War 11 surrender......we are bound to defend Japan. For now. There is talk of allowing Japan to obtain offensive weapons. If they are able to defend themselves, I would step back and let South Korea fight it's own battle with the North.

No, I can't Todd, it was on FOX news the other day. The President said that the food aid was not reaching the people, it was being sidetracked, and he would not send further aid until the aid agencies were allowed to get the food to the people. That's why NK is going ballistic and demanding the US joins the talks. I think it's best left to China and Russia. South Korea also has a huge military. Japan can rely on us to protect them. If Japan chooses to develop nuclear weapons (which would be China's worst nightmare) it could be done in an amazingly short period of time considering all the nuclear power plants they have.

China and Russia are not stepping up to the plate because they want to distract us from Iraq. President Bush has not fallen for the ploy. What he's telling China and Russia is that THEY have to clean up their own neighborhood and when they come up with a plan, we'll help them enforce it. In my opinion, that's the right attitude. Japan knows we'll be there for them. As to South Korea, when they decide they don't want to be anti-American anymore we might decide to be there for them too. President Bush is giving them a very valuable lesson in loyalty and why it's a bad idea to bite the hand that feeds you. I think they are learning.

I think you are going too far too fast on this criticism of Bush. Clinton had 8 years in office and we can see the end results of his efforts, a big failure. Bush has been in office for 2 years and has 2 to go, he is in the middle of everything with lots on his plate. It is way too soon to be calling him Neville Chamberlain, plus he has not backed down on the axis of evil idea. Give him a chance to finish his work.
