Two Found Shot Dead Near US Plane Crash in Colombia 29 minutes ago
BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) - Two people were found shot dead near a U.S. government plane that crashed in a rebel-dominated area of Colombia, sources said on Friday, and a senior Colombian military officer identified the pair as Americans who apparently had been slain execution style. There was no confirmation of the identities of the two bodies.
The plane was carrying five people -- four Americans and a Colombian -- when its engine failed on Thursday and it crashed in a jungle area in southern Caqueta province, which is largely dominated by rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, a 17,000-member guerrilla army known as FARC.

So, when are we bombing Chechnya? My point being, are we "at war" with everyone who is called "terrorist" by a government somewhere? The reason I ask this is that I wonder why anyone would consider FARC part of the War on Terror. They have certainly committed acts of terror in their own country, but how does that involve us?

I'm sorry I guess I should have said that I'm an American.

What care? Have you seen those folks? They die prematurely of aids or OD.
To: seamole
hell yea, maybe not a full fledged war but at least a raid. we must at least get retribution, two slayings unchecked make us look weak. these guys have a reason to hate us, i believe we give tons of money and military equipment to the colombian government.

Who is suggesting that we pay for their care?
To: AppyPappy
I never said anything about taking care of drug addicts. If they OD, I say let them die.
Hopefully you wouldn't have a problem with that.

It is a dangerous place mostly because of drugs.
Afganistan said falsely that the Taliban did not allow the growing of poppies. This was just a lie as we found out when we liberated the country and found all of the drug lords controlling the country. They still control the country that still produces a lot of drugs.
We really do not care about drugs. We do care about Terrorism that threatens us.
To: AppyPappy
Sorry, but if heroin was legalized tomorrow it wouldn't make me want to take it any more than I do now. The same for goes for all other drugs. Cigarettes are legal but I don't smoke. Alcohol is legal yet I'm not an alcoholic. I agree with a previous post - if there's a demand, someone will meet the supply, whether or not it's legal.

Drugs should be legalized, regulated and taxed. That will remove the 15,000% markup price thanks to it being on the black market and will also end gangwars that a drug related. I agree, however I fear what 500,000 suddenly unemployed gang banging drug dealers will turn to for a living. I don't think they will flip burgers.

"So you propose we legalize heroin so that anyone can wreck their lives with it and then WE have to pay for their care? That's nuts."
Would it be nuts if we didn't pay for that care? This arguement says that because Government has intervened to "provide" care, that that now means everyone has a stake in the health and habits of others? Just stop "providing" assistance and then leave everyone alone.

Since FALN really were terrorists, and probably still are, during this period of heightened concern they should be rounded up and tossed in the brig.

I can't find any information on the remaining 3 Americans that were on the plane. Does anyone know anything about them?
To: AppyPappy
The article says the US has spent $2 billion in recent years "to fight" drugs in Columbia.
But they keep our borders open?

This was not Terroism just normal drug trafficing behaviour. You couldn't be more wrong. The FARC are Marxist rebels and literally use a translated copy of Ho Chi Minh's book as their playbook. I'll say that again. They LITERALLY are using Ho Chi Minh's book as their playbook to overthrow the democratically elected govt..
The use Terrorism as a means towards their ends; including bombing, kidnapping, torture of children and women, burning of crops, execution of whole villages that don't cooperate, and (where you are getting confused that this is a drug issue) they tax outgoing drug crop shipments from the provinces they control to fund their rebellion.
There are pro-govt. paramilitary groups that are using some of the same techniques to fight against the FARC and of course the Govt. forces are facing off against both.
The Generals are sued by the FARC political wing into oblivion with charges, many times made up charges of massacres and atrocities and looking the other way at the Para military forces.
If you are an effective general you spend many years in court defending yourself only to have a complaint lodged against you with the embassy by the fellow traveler leftist Non Governmental Organizations. The NGO complaints are then reported to the congress who also get the same NGO's giving testimony against the said Generals all the while the congresscritters don't realize the info they are getting is unsubstantiated crap all coming from the same source.
They think they are getting info from several sources and believe the reports and then file the issue with the state dept. who then refuses to allow the same Generals to come to America for training by our military and then they are also barred from getting training from our military down their.
That leaves Colombia with a military constrained from operating in their own country because their Constitution is similar to ours in the Posse Commitatus (sp?) clause. The country is under attack by and insurgent force , like in Vietnam,by a force well financed by the drug trade, while fighting under police force rules of engagement and attacked in the courts when they are effective.
Now you have about 15% of the story. If you want to learn more I would start reading Soldier of Fortune because they have the best war reporting and run special stories on things like the sex trade, Child sex slave trade, drug cartels, boder issues with Mexico, not to mention general gun fun stuff.
So when somebody says that's just a drug war down their you can correct them. It's a war with Marxism. And like all good Marxist rebel movements no means of war are off limits, terror, drugs, courts, propoganda, disinformation, using the opponents political system against itself, you name it.
Travis, did I miss anything?

FARC hates you - that's their problem with America. Now, what are you going to do about it?

Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) From: Patterns of Global Terrorism, 2001 . United States Department of State, May 2002.
Comments on the content of the material should be sent to the U.S. Department of State
Description
Established in 1964 as the military wing of the Colombian Communist Party, the FARC is Colombia's oldest, largest, most capable, and best-equipped Marxist insurgency. The FARC is governed by a secretariat, led by septuagenarian Manuel Marulanda, a.k.a. "Tirofijo," and six others, including senior military commander Jorge Briceno, a.k.a. "Mono Jojoy." Organized along military lines and includes several urban fronts. In 2001, the group continued a slow-moving peace negotiation process with the Pastrana Administration that has gained the group several concessions, including a demilitarized zone used as a venue for negotiations.
Activities
Bombings, murder, kidnapping, extortion, hijacking, as well as guerrilla and conventional military action against Colombian political, military, and economic targets. In March 1999 the FARC executed three US Indian rights activists on Venezuelan territory after it kidnapped them in Colombia. Foreign citizens often are targets of FARC kidnapping for ransom. Has well-documented ties to narcotics traffickers, principally through the provision of armed protection.
Strength
Approximately 9,000 to 12,000 armed combatants and an unknown number of supporters, mostly in rural areas.
Location/Area of Operation
Colombia with some activities--extortion, kidnapping, logistics, and R&R--in Venezuela, Panama, and Ecuador.
External Aid
Cuba provides some medical care and political consultation.
Kill them
