By Associated Press, 2/14/2003 12:32 GERING, Neb. (AP) The man charged with abducting, raping and killing a 15-year-old newspaper carrier from his neighborhood has confessed to investigators, a court document stated.
During questioning, Jeffrey A. Hessler admitted he picked up Heather Guerrero as she delivered papers before dawn Tuesday, had sex with her, drove her to an abandoned house about 12 miles from Gering and shot her, the document said.

with airport security guards like him, who needs Al-Queda....
there was some question apparently in this case that an Amber Alert was not called, even though a neighbor heard a scream and gave a great description of a car fleeing the area without its lights on.....
If this girl was killed well after being taken, then the Amber Alert could have saved her...because people had identified the car near where the girl was eventually found....
there was a petition going around recently to make Amber Alerts for adults the norm...I signed it...hope all freepers would sign it if it comes around again.....
I don't know what the problem was in not calling the Amber Alert in this sad case, but if we would make the Alert system available to all then perhaps there would have been no hesitation on the part of the Nebraska police.....
God Bless this young girl, and her family, another victim of our culture of impulse, obsession, and death.....

You picked up on that too?
To have sex "with" someone means consensual (in my book anyway).

A good case study for why Nebraska needs to be more aggressive with it's Death Penalty. Average time on Death Row in this state is over 15 years.
My sympathy to the girl and her family.

Hessler lived with his parents about a block from the Guerrero home
Typical.

"I don't know what the problem was in not calling the Amber Alert in this sad case, but if we would make the Alert system available to all then perhaps there would have been no hesitation on the part of the Nebraska police....." You should see the BIG friggin' electronic signs we purchased for road conditions/amber alert (I'm in Omaha). If you've ever driven out of Denver towards the mountains and have seen the road condition signs, we have those. I'm sure they weren't cheap.
The signs laid on the side of the road for ~6 months before they were installed because the Department of Transportation poured the wrong type of footings. I have yet to see these signs in use. But smile, you help us pay for them.

This guy should be given a pass and allowed to run for the U.S. Senate. Afterall, Teddy Kennedy did just about the same thing and got away with it. </sarcasm>

Public hanging should be brought back into use. Lethal injection is too humane for this kind of crime.

You picked up on that too? The newspaper is correct if that's what he told the police. The phrase you refer to is what he admitted to. He was charged with sexual assault

If those signs work even once to save an abducted child, they are worth every penny.

I'm surprised to read that kids still have paper routes. Around here, you have to be eighteen or older and have a car. No more kids on bikes with bags.
