Powell better release more evidence. This isn't looking good:

Russia and France getting applause with the ridiculous notion of continued inspections.

Aziz, of Iraq, meeting with the Pope the other day.

Britian desperately needing a second resolution and right now it doesn't look like the U.K. will get it.

The tide is turning against us and Saddam is winning public opinion. I know most FREEPers here were against going to the UN, but I was for it. Now, like everyone else I see that was a big mistake.

Iraqi officials quoting US Senators, Hollywood actors and the NY Times... I say, whoever provides talking points to the enemy goes to the stockade until the terrorist threat is over.

They probably think we in the U.S. wait with bated breath for 'great philosophers' like Babs, Alec, Penn, and the like to tell us what is right and what is wrong. And for many stupid Americans, they are correct. Far too many Americans never think beyond what is pushed in front of their eyeballs or through their eardrums.

I always thought the route with the UN was more or less a dance we were forced to do. A role we were forced to play in order to show that that we were "measured and tolerant" etc.

Nobody, I think, expected these trecherous reactions from France, Germans and Russia to the extent that they have come!

Well, I've been out all morning; how about giving me the Cliff Notes on what has happened.

Brace yourself. During a break Gen. McCaffrey on MSNBC was appalled at the statements coming out of the UN, including Blix. More inspectors was the call of the day, and Blix, as McCaffrey noted--as well as we freepers--implied that Powell was deceptive in his presentation last week. Saying that the pictures of trucks, for example, could have been taken weeks apart.

He said there is no evidence that Iraq was aware of which site would be visited by inspectors ahead of time.

France and Russia both received APPLAUSE. Both called for continued inspections, but France took the cake, referring to the UN as a temple and saying war could be averted if only the inspectors could be allowed to find and destroy the weapons that may be there.

There were calls for intelligence to be given to inspectors to aid them in their mission (they still think it is a scavenger hunt).

Oh! And South Africa was cited as a model of disarmament, and Blix was pleased that they have offered, and Iraq has accepted, their help in learning how to disarm.

Powell was not pleased, perhaps someone else could summarize his statement as my head is swimming after recounting the above. I do recall that Powell said disarming was not "brain surgery" and that "even" South Africa had achieved it (swat).

Aziz saying Iraq isn't an enemy of Spain or Italy. " Why would they want to go to war to help the US with imperialist ambitions?"
