If city cops are on edge, they have got good reason. Law Enforcement and city hosptials have been told that the thread of a cynaide attack or something similar is an immediate danger here in New York City.
Hospitals across the city are keeping an eye on this new terror warning because of the specific language that the city health department is using. They are talking about a possible cynaide gas attack. All the hospitals in the city are now on 'Code Red' high alert.
George Tenet CIA Director: [This Threat] 'It points to a plot to occur at the end of the Hajj, which occurs late this week.'
The Hajj runs through Saturday and so the NYPD has increased the number of officers on counterterrorism assignments from 1,000 to more than 1,400.The health department notified hospitals it has mass antidotes on hand for cynanide and nerve gas poisining.

Strange, when I checked your link the word MASS does not appear. Did you type it in or has it been changed?

If every hospital in New York is stocking the anitode I would call it 'mass' although I should have put it inot brackets.

*That threat is being taken so seriously that the FBI has launched a nationwide campaign to interview 50,000 Iraqi-Americans, hoping to get any information they can.*
50,000?? That'll take an hour or two. (sarc)

If you are in the NYC area I would think firing up some duct tape might not be a bad idea...

I note police are checking trucks and vans. What about a "plumber's" truck but instead of the propane the tanks seem to loaded with there is a canister of VX? There are so many ways to smuggle in deadly agents.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

"Imminent"????? Ummm..... shouldn't that be "possible"?
From dictionary.com
'About to occur; impending: in imminent danger. '

I hate to say it, but ready the bumper stickers:
"ARE YOU STILL FOR OPEN U.S. BORDERS?"
You would probably receive a constant stream of honking in support as you drove to work (after such an attack done by even more dastardly, out of control foreigners here on our soil even after our FIRST wakeup call of 9-11-01).

This is about as close to an attack I ever want to get with relatives in the NYC area.

This is about as close to an attack I ever want to get with relatives in the NYC area. I bumped into my cousin's wife at the grocery store. My other cousin, who lives in NYC, called her to say that NYC residents are urged to have a contact outside of the city. Has anyone else heard of this?

And note the Iraq connection!
"Also, the danger is not just Al-Qaeda. According to the CIA, Saddam Hussein may have operatives in the U.S. for a preemptive assault of his own.
Robert Gallucci, ABC News Analyst: "We should fully expect that he would use whatever capability he has to inflict harm on us or our allies if he can do it."
That threat is being taken so seriously that the FBI has launched a nationwide campaign to interview 50,000 Iraqi-Americans, hoping to get any information they can. "

More "feel good" news. It's nice to hear the hospitals are stocking "mass" amounts of cyanide antidote. It's also irrelevant unless the means of delivery is via poisoned food stuffs. A cyanide gas attack will kill you before you can get to the hospital for treatment.

And the five were asked where they were from, their weapons examined and returned to them, along with their $1000s of dollars cash, then allowed to peacefully cross the border into USA, "Enjoy your stay"
