"Mexican authorities have detained six Iraqi citizens who they believe intended to cross into the United States from Tijuana. The five men and one woman cliamed to be German citizens when they arrived at the Tijuana airport Tuesday night on a flight from Mexico City. Immigration authorities have sent the Iraqis back to Mexico City for questioning. Officials are trying to determine whether the Iraqis might be Caldean Christians, a group which claims it faces persecution in Iraq."

Sitting here in San Diego (right next door to Tijuana), this was of more than passing interest.

If they're not Caldean Christians, does this mean that we can start the bombing pretty much whenever we want to now?

Tarek Aziz is a Chaldean Christian. Doesn't sound like persecution to me.

Gee, is that a smart move? They'll just pay off the corrupt Mexican authorities and get escorted in through some other hole in the border.
Close and lock the gates NOW!

If they're not Caldean Christians will they decide they are after they or their lawyer reads this article?

Why did this make a Fox News Alert when we've had several Iranians, Iraqis, Yemenis, etc. stopped after entering the U.S. in Cochise County, Arizona since 9/11? Why is this incident suddenly news? The other incidents weren't newsworthy?
Well, for whatever reason it made it, I hope these events - which are happening all the time - start to make national news more often. Maybe Washington (yes, that includes George Bush) will get their heads out of their collective butts and seal this damned border.

Just ask them to repeat "Jesus is the Son of God" and "Mohammed is a lunatic creep."
To: John Jorsett
The initial word is they are Caldean Christians fleeing Iraqi persecution.
Quite possible, and on a side note, Christians are bracing for a regime change in Iraq and the "unleashing" of a jihad on them inside that God-forsaken place.
Still developing.

Aziz claims to be a Chaldean Christian and met with the Pope. Is there a record of discrimination against Chaldean Christians in Iraq?

Why did this make a Fox News Alert when we've had several Iranians, Iraqis, Yemenis, etc. stopped after entering the U.S. in Cochise County, Arizona since 9/11? Probably because we're on the brink of war with their country and in a state of high alert. If I were going to infiltrate enemy agents into the U.S., having them pretend to flee religious persecution (if their "I'm German" cover didn't hack it) would be a good way to go.
To: not-an-ostrich
Throw some pork at them and see how they react.
