Please FREEPERS - Help this longtime Free Republic member set things straight with a very important member of the press about the Gray Davis recall effort and the recall site www.RecallGrayDavis.com

A group I joined early on that was organizing the Recall Gray Davis effort got misidentified this week by a conservative Radio Talk Show host in Sacramento this week causing confusion and threatening to impede success in the Recall Gray Davis effort. I am so concerned and depressed about this and I desperately seek your help to set the record straight.

Someone for some reason told Tom that the Recall Gray Davis Committee official website - www.RecallGrayDavis.com was some suspicious website or a scam possibly fronted by Gray Davis’ legal defense fund.

So he warned listeners NOT to go sign up at the site to register to receive Gray Davis recall petitions, NOT to sign up to volunteer and NOT to contribute.

The Recall Gray Davis Campaign Coordinator contacted the station and gave her name and phone number of the recall campaign headquarters. She tried to get them to correct the misinformation they were reporting.

Then the Recall Gray Davis Campaign Chairman - The Honorable Howard Kaloogian, Republican State Assemblyman from 1994-2000 - called to speak with Tom and make sure he knew he was involved and that this recall effort is not only very real but incredibly successful. Well over 10,000 Californians have signed up to receive petitions, volunteer, contribute or all three!

Now a rally is being organized on February 22nd in late morning on the North Steps (L Street Side) of the State Capitol.

But we very much fear people won’t take this seriously if this misinformation is spread. This could destroy the progress we have made so far!!!

In case you need more info about the Recall Gray Davis Committee Chairman Howard Kaloogian read this article written about him when he finished his third term in the State Legislature:
CLICK HERE to Read About Recall Chairman Howard Kaloogian

===================================================

Some excerpts:

"After six years as a standard-bearer for the state's conservative Republicans, Howard Kaloogian's career representing the 74th Assembly District ends this fall, a consequence of voter-approved term limits.

Kaloogian, 40, said he has no intention of sitting on the political sidelines. “

“During tributes honoring outgoing legislators in August, Kaloogian's colleagues portrayed him on the Assembly floor as a man who stayed true to his conservative principles.

Counting himself an unwavering supporter, state Sen. Bill Morrow, R-Oceanside, said Kaloogian "was an anchor for many Republicans, including myself."

"His style is very pugnacious, and that's what we needed," Morrow said. "I will personally miss him in the Legislature, but Howard will still be in San Diego. Wherever there's a conservative cause, Howard will still be there."

“"One of the most important things he did was he came into office and promised certain things and kept those promises," said Mason Weaver, a North County Times columnist who Kaloogian endorsed as his successor to the 74th District. Weaver lost the March primary.

"I have a funny feeling he won't be quiet," Weaver said. "He's going to continue to raise our banner up and be a champion for the causes."

“Among the Lincoln Club's 210 members, "the general consensus was that Howard was a good friend for business and a strong advocate of a fair tax code, pension reform and government downsizing. The Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse gave him an A-plus rating," Richman said.” And Howard ‘told it like it was’ about what the legacy of Gray Davis would be - and he was more prescient than anyone could have imagined: “One of the strongest impressions he had of Kaloogian came when he invited the Assemblyman to his health policy class at UC San Diego. Hertzka said he invites a Democrat and a Republican each term.

Kaloogian came to the class shortly after Democrat Gray Davis was elected governor.

"Howard came in and said, 'Now we're going to sit back and watch them mess up the state,' " Hertzka said. "That was a remarkable thing to say to a group of impressionable students I had been working with all quarter, telling them that if they worked with legislators, it could make a difference."

===================================================

While Mr. Kaloogian is a conservative Republican who doesn’t apologize for his views he has been working now for several weeks behind the scenes to line up support for this recall effort from people outside the Republican party. He knows the value of getting others who are dissatisfied with Davis for his corruption, deception and malfeasance will be important in helping grow the recall effort. But we can all know that he will not flinch from his conservative views or allow conservative solutions to the state’s crises to be dismissed by others who might also support a recall.

So far conservative talk radio shows throughout California have had Mr. Kaloogian on and linked to his site. Roger Hedgecock in San Diego, Terry Anderson of KRLA in Los Angeles, John and Ken on FKI in Los Angeles, KERN Radio, KSFO Radio - they all link to www.RecallGrayDavis.com - it's not a scam.

So like I said, what worries me is that SACRAMENTO is where we are organizing the massive Recall Gray Davis rally.

If Tom Sullivan is dissing this effort then it will be a disaster :(

There are several recall efforts - we all have to work together if we are to succeed. So far there is only one who is organized enough for me to join - the one that officially filed with the Fair Political Practices Commission. But I don't begrudge any of the other groups. I know they are working behind the scenes together and will share the same petition.

But TALK SHOW HOSTS CANNOT ATTACK AND DIVIDE! PLEASE HELP!

Oh - just so you know I don't work for the Gray Davis legal defense fund either (WHY ON EARTH WOULD TOM SAY THAT??? Grrr....) here is me:

Many California Freepers know me as someone who has been very willing to stand up and “shout out” my objections to the devastating rule of Gray Davis.

I am the guy who was the ‘chant leader’ at several Gray Davis rallies - many of you probably joined with me in the cries of “Somebody Save Us From Gray Davis” and “Uh Uh - No Way - We Don’t Want No Pay to Play” and “Corrupt. Dishonest. DUMP DAVIS NOW!” If you don’t remember, then maybe these pictures from previous Free Republic threads will refresh your memory:

I’m the tall blonde hair guy on the far right in this picture next to the Gray Davis-poisoned Dioxin fish with the bullhorn in my hands.

FREE REPUBLIC - DUMP DAVIS BIGGER RALLY Wooohooo! Gotta Love Saundra Duffy!
I’m “Freeper Joe” who was at this Dump Davis rally too who was almost hit by Governor Gray Davis’ car as he went to a campaign event we protested at!

I’m holding the sign where you can read “About Money”

I'm sorry - I know I am manic but if Tom Sullivan's misunderstanding causes people not to show up for the massive Recall Gray Davis rally in Sacramento on February 22nd (at the State Capitol) I will be so very upset :(

Why are there two groups, and what's the difference between them? http://www.recallgraydavis.com is one, and there's one led by Ted Costa whose URL I forget.

Good question!

I think Ted Costa's group wanted to get the press credit so when they got wind of the Recall Gray Davis Committee Howard was forming they jumped out with a press conference a few hours after the website from Kaloogian's group went up.

All I know is that we CANNOT have infighting - we must work together, FROM ONE PETITION and RECALL GRAY DAVIS!

To that end I think Costa and Kaloogian actually both agree on this from the quotes I've read.

What my concern is that while Costa isn't able to organize throughout the state and Kaloogian has and raised the funds Costa couldn't that this talk radio host might cause mass confusion and kill the success of the rally in Sacramento.

So long as we all work from ONE PETITION and have ONE GOAL it will all work out. I happen to believe that Costa's people will collect like 10,000 signatures and Kaloogian's effort will collect over a million - hence why I joined up with the official Recall Gray Davis Committee early on and not the People's Advocate.

I am assuming you know that the Ted Costa group has already presented a signed petition or citation or whatever you call it to the Governor last week. They collected 500 or so signatures to get their effort started. Ted Costa is working with Eric Hogue from KTKZ-1380 Sacramento. I detect egos involved.

Oh yes I am sure there are egos involved which is why Costa jumped the gun to get the press glory as the first to file before anything was ready.

But who cares?? I think Ted Costa does great work as a tax advocate and I think Howard Kaloogian was a great Assemblyman and he was recruited to form this committee by people I knew and liked.

So as long as they use the same petition I will like them both. But as long as talk radio hosts confuse people about which recall effort stands as the leading one to organize petition circulators and contributors and collect the signatures, well then that's horrible. And that's something I know we can all agree on!!! :)

Recall Gray Davis!!!

Of course you are right, and we should only be concerned with the greater goal. But I think the opportunity for confusion is great and believe that some people will hold back because they don't understand who or what organization has the greatest chance of success. I myself was turned off by the Kaloogian group who contacted me via e-mail and the first thing they asked for was money. By contrast I have not heard Ted Costa ask anyone for money. I just hope all these organizers can put their egos aside and work together to help the citizens of this State who want to work for this recall but may get mixed messages from the various groups and radio show hosts.

I am curious, how can they all work from the same petition or paper that Ted Costa filed, assuming his group is kind of "in charge" of the effort?

Wow, as the top anti-Davis Freeper of the past year and a half, I can testify to Impeach98's credentials.

He's telling it straight here. Not sure what Tom Sullivan is on about.
