UPDATE!!! 9:45pm CST:

Cutting to the chase, PROGNOSIS IS GOOD!

Now, take a deep breath and I'll report some of the details I was able to learn!

I had a conversation with Rose's sweet mother. The surgery started at around 11:00am and the doctors came out to report to her mom at about 5:00pm. The long stay in recovery was partially due to the need to wait on a bed upstairs. Apparently the hospital is really busy right now.

Rose's mother (I'll call her Mrs Rose!) reported that Rose was in surgery a little longer than she expected. There was a lot of old scar tissue that had to be detached from the spine. This time instead of a blood vessel being nicked, the dura* was nicked and had to be repaired. There were also some steps taken for spinal fusion of some of the vertebrae, if I understand it correctly.

Mrs Rose tells me that Rose is experiencing a LOT of pain, but isnt trying to be a hero and tough it out. She is asking for her pain medications. This is good because if a person is in pain, it causes tremendous stress to the body and interferes with the immune and healing responses.

Mrs Rose reports that beginning at about 6pm this evening, Rose is to be flat on her back for 48 hours. She has been told that she will be in the hospital a minimum of 5 days.
It may be longer, but he wont know about the exact day she can get sprung until around that 5 day mark.

*From the American Heritage Dictionary:
Dura mater: A tough fibrous membrane, lying over the the arachnoid and the pia mater, that covers the brain and spinal chord. Also called the "endocranium."

So, from my perspective, it sounds very promising! Mrs Rose sounded in high spirits despite the long trying day. I hope to get another report late tomorrow morning or perhaps early afternoon.

OUR FATHER,

We are so very grateful that you have brought our Rose through this delicate spinal surgery safely. We give gratitude for the expertise of the doctors and nurses and other surgical team members. We are grateful for all other health care professionals at that hospital. Please continue to guide them and surround them with your wisdom and peace.

Father, we are aware that pain following surgery is a given. However, we ask that you will intercede in this situation and somehow help that pain to be lessened or mitigated somehow if it is your will to do so. We ask that that pain medication be 100% effective for the period time in which it is necessary for her to use it. We especially ask that the pain which has been bothering her for so long can be lessened or mitigated so that she can once more return to doing her activities here at FreeRepublic.com. Again, we ask that this be done according to thy will.

Please Father, heal that dura mater. Heal those other nerves and vessels which have been dislodged or disrupted during this surgery. Help those bones fuse properly according to thy healing hand.

Father, we pray for Mrs Rose and for Rose's entire family. Grant them peace and comfort as they witness their loved one going through this healing process which is before her.

Again, Father, we rejoice that the surgery is an apparent success. We claim that victory, and by your grace, we ask that that victory be sealed. We see our Rose as being whole, and we claim that health for her now, according to thy will. Thank you our Father. Let this which we call forth for Rose and her family be also applied to any and all of your children for whom you deem appropriate according to thy will.

Amen
