"This nomination now moves to the Senate floor."
This vote is just to give her cover when she votes
on Estrada.

They paint the debate as not knowing anything about Mr Estrada. He's a "stealth candidate." Then they charge him as an idealogue.
Riiiiiiiggggghhhhhhht.

Did anyone hear Sen Hatch on Hannity's radio show yesterday? He gave out the direct phone number to the senate democrat Cloak room. Did anyone happen to write it down? I was in the car and couldn't write it down.

Well, maybe, just maybe the reason they aren't going to release the internal memos is called "a separation of powers". Like it or not the democrats aren't going to be able to go on a fishing expedition just to stall the inevitable. Estrada is going to be confirmed, you know it and the dems in the senate know it. That is why we're having this side show. The White House can't demand internal memos of congress either except in criminal matters. Besides, not releasing the memos is driving you democrats nutz and that is kinda cute to watch.

In addition it raises the stakes somewhat for the GOP because now all potential nominees are dead in the water. All those nominees can be given recess appointments at the next Senate recess.

"BTW, the 7 SG's didn't say they CAN'T release the old memos, because they understand there is no ethical or legal prohibition against the WHITE HOUSE releasing them. Those old memos are the property of the WH, not Estrada. " 200 years of Separation of Powers between branches of government is ONE major reason.
If facts concern you, you will be interested to know that the suit by the GAO against the Administration to release certain documents was thrown out of court last week..... Precisely because it violated Separation of Powers.

Ackerman is a superlefty law professor at Yale Law School. He made a suggestion at the Clinton impeachment trial that pretty much everybody regarded as ridiculous.

No, No, No....He "shopped" for her at the grocery store. She was in aisle three and dropped her box of cereal. He picked it up. They were married two weeks later.

Any idea why Byrd's office is closed ? The staff is taking fiddle lessons and buying gum for their Valentine sweethearts.

On the constitutional front, Clinton's lawyers are studying the legal arguments of Yale University law professor Bruce Ackerman, who stated before the House Judiciary Committee a few weeks ago that when the 105th Congress expires on Jan. 3, all its unfinished business, including the action taken against Clinton, expires with it.
Ackerman believes that the White House can appeal to Chief Justice William Rehnquist to throw out the impeachment articles voted against Clinton.
"He would be well within his rights to quash the lame-duck impeachment and remand the matter back to the new House of Representatives," Ackerman has said.

How would you feel if you were the subject of the case that Estrada wrote about ? Further, how would you feel if your case was still appealable ? Would you like to read about the notes on your case that ordinarily are private in the media ?
