Feb. 13 U.S. Special Operations troops are already operating in various parts of Iraq, hunting for weapons sites, establishing a communications network and seeking potential defectors from Iraqi military units in what amounts to the initial ground phase of a war, U.S. defense officials and experts familiar with Pentagon planning said.

Our military is magnificent. Although they get battered in the press, their leaders, strategists, and the men and women in uniform are the best in the world.
It appears that months of talk about massive air strikes, 800 cruise missiles in 48 hours, etc. have led Baghdad to pull resources and air defenses into the major cities while the US is getting ready for a massive ground operation to seize oil fields and control territory before the bombing begins.
The funny thing is, who knows if even that info is true! Their planning, deception, and psychological warfare tactics are brilliant. Gosh, I'm so proud! When I was "in the war" our motto was, "In God we trust, all others we jam, monitor, and deceive." Good work fellas, I can't wait to see what you've got up your sleeve.

I like this- we should quietly take over all the places we can, then at the firstr sign of resistance beat them into submission with an all out assault.
Everyone is expecting a sudden start of war as in Gulf War I- I can't wait to see what really happens. I am hoping they take out saddumb in the first 48 hours.

I assume this will look like the Dakkar rally.
Tanks and HumVees blazing across the desert at top speed, headed for Baghdad.

Have our troops be on the lookout for weapons systems and equipment bearing the labels "Made In France", "Made in Germany", "Made in North Korea" and "Made in China".

Give it a rest! The government puts out these leaks to MSNBC and the news services for a reason. Open source is open source info...If Iraq is watching CNN or surfing Free Republic to gain valuable intelligence, then they've got the world's dumbest intelligence service.

Morty Kondracke tossed out a little nugget last night during the panel - actually, right at the END of the panel - where he said that the war HAS already de facto begun. Saddam moved a surface-to-SURFACE- missile battery into the Basra area, where it would be within easy range of Q-8. Our flyboys, who normally only target SAM batteries, took it out with precision-guided armaments.
So. How did we know that the missile batteries were SS and not SAM?
Go back to the story about our guys already being IN Iraq. Of course, SOME of our guys ARE flying photo-recon - ...

I have a theory that we have a lot more than Special Forces in Iraq. Not sure how defended the Kuwaiti-Iraq border is by the Iraqis and I think that some of the 3ID guys anyway(and maybe some Marines) may be several dozen miles into Iraq-Mainly in the interests of dispersion (in case of Chem Attack) and so forth-

See what I mean? All that needs to be done now is to formally announce we were already doing it. By the time this stuff is given to the press it's often two weeks old.

My son is special ops, and I have no idea where he is.
I expect a lot of disinformation is going on, but the mission of special ops is to form alliances with forces within. Saddam is in big time trouble.

Deception and misinformation are tools of war, look at Churchhill's Bodyguard of Lies in WWII and Scwartzkopf in the Gulf War (I)....
Interesting posts from "Baghdad"

excerpt:
quick run thru what is going on in Baghdad before uncles and aunts flood the house. The juiciest bit of news actually happened about a week ago but I was told about it today. A couple of days ago it was rumored that all top officials had their phone numbers changed, well who cares its not like I call Saddam every night to chat, but today a friend explained why. Around six days ago the phone lines of the Iraqi air defense units were attacked. When you picked up the phone in some of the command units you didnt get a dial tone but a male voice speaking in broken Arabic. What it said is close to what the infamous email said, dont use chemical or biological weapons, dont offer resistance, and dont obey commands to attack civilian areas and so on. This went on for a couple of hours. Now everyone has new numbers. I have no idea how that is at all possible. I do know that for some rural areas we use microwave signals for phone connections but they cant be so stupid as to use it for military purposes.
Way to go uncle Sam. This is going to make one hell of a James Bond movie.

Thanks so much. I think our guys will kick butt. Knowing my son and some of his friends, I know they all are anxious to do what they can to keep another 9/11 ever happening again. God bless our troops!
