But the most telling indication was Tim’s “manifesto” to the defense team of November 24,1996. It was handwritten, addressed to “All Attorneys Assigned to U.S. Versus McVeigh,” and it read as follows:

--------------------------------------------------

Defense strategy:
As official notice, let it be known that I do not approve of a trial strategy in which Terry Nichols is attacked, blamed or otherwise implicated in any crimes. Further, I do not approve of pointing the finger of responsibility at anyone else who I know is not responsible or who is in no way deserving of such scrutiny. I have relayed this wish orally for 18 months-not only concerning Terry Nichols, but also addressing the “foreign” investigations and the “neo-Nazi” investigations. My oral requests have been basically ignored for the past 18 months and it is only recently that Judge Matsch has forced the defense into partial compliance with my wish. However, the defense still tries to ignore my wishes-demands where Terry Nichols is concerned.

I will not allow you to coerce me into lowering my moral and ethical values to that of attorneys and lawyers.

So that it is clear, I approve of any general reference to unknown others or cover-ups, but I expressly do not approve of any specific allegation against specific groups or individuals-unless those groups or individuals are clearly approved by me in writing.(The only person or groups that I currently give permission to attack is Roger Moore.) For further explanation of my feelings, see the letter I wrote to Jeralyn Merrit with attached 4 x 6 Post-its which I delivered to Bob Wyatt on October 30,1996. Attached to this letter was a request for general circulation and comment, but it also has been ignored.

(signed)
Tim McVeigh
November 24, 1996

Jones continues on page 259:

In other words, we were now restricted from raising the possibility of anybody else involved, unless Tim gave us permission in writing, and the only person he was authorizing was Roger Moore, against whom he nursed a grievance but who, from everything we knew, hadn’t been involved in the bombing!”

This man refused to accept what his client told him -

- so why do you even quote him now?

Time and time again Oklahoma Jones swam against the tide on this, AND, OKLAHOMA JOMES stands to PROFIT from this and, MUST continue to support the 'widespread' conspiracy theories he invented -

- McVeigh (SHOULD you EVER read his BOOK) time and time again TOLD THE SAME STORY to investigators HIRED by jones -

- NOT ONCE did her waiver in his account/his story/his involvement in the OKC bombing ...

McVeigh insisted that the entire Elohim City conspiracy theory was a red herring, a waste of his team's time and money.

He swore that he had never met Snell or Howe; he admitted that he'd met Strassmeir once, at a gun show, and that he'd attempted to call Strassmeir at Elohim two weeks before the bombing, in search of a potential post-bombing hideout. He never wavered from his contention that neither Strassrneir nor anyone else at Elohim had anything to do with the bombing.

{But] McVeigh never stopped Jones from pursuing his theories, calculating that they might help confuse the prosecution.

And to finish this out today I leave you with this excerpt:
While awaiting sentencing in March 1998, Nichols sent judge Matsch a sixteen-page letter, asking for leniency and offering an apology of sorts for the role he played in the crime. The letter made clear that Nichols felt the blame rested squarely on McVeigh.

"If I did anything to contribute to the cause of the Oklahoma City bombing I am sorry, I'm truly sony," Nichols wrote.

I never never wanted to kill or harm anyone or to damage or destroy any buildings or property anywhere at anytime. This may sound hollow and superficial to some but I am sincere when I say that I would give my life if it would bring back all those that died in the bombing, especially the children.

Perhaps I should have listened closer to what McVeigh was saying. Perhaps I should have questioned McVeigh more about certain things ... I never in my wildest dreams ever thought that I would know someone that would do a horrible terrorist act as what happened in OKC. I never thought that an American would carry out such a terrorist act in his own country ... I'm sorry that I am too naive and too trusting of people.

On June 4, 1998, Matsch sentenced Nichols to life in prison without parole. He called Nichols "an enemy of the Constitution." As an additional, largely symbolic punishment, Nichols was ordered to pay $14.5 million to his victims. If he should ever come into money, in effect, Nichols would not be allowed to keep it.

Six months later, in December, FBI Special Agent Danny Defenbaugh, who led the investigation, told the Oklahoman and the Tulsa World that the goverment's $82.5 million investigation into the bombing had determined that there was no wider conspiracy than McVeigh and Nichols.

Defenbaugh said that none of the many conspiracy theories that had been suggested -

- including allegations that some foreign government or militia organization had been behind the bombing -

- had ever panned out. He said federal agents had checked 43,500 leads and eliminated 7,156 people as possible accomplices in the bombing.
