[Page: S2306] GPO's PDF

Mr. TALENT. Mr. President, if there is no further business to come before the Senate, I ask unanimous consent that the Senate stand in adjournment under the previous order.
There being no objection, the Senate, at 12:45 a.m., adjourned until Thursday, February 13, 2003, at 11 a.m.

Interesting. I KNOW I heard Hatch and Schumer talking about this last night. Seems 3 nominees were questioned before the committee (all in one day, over a 12 hour period) and were scheduled for a vote, in committee, today.
Hatch asked Schumer if the rumor that the Dems were going to filibuster IN COMMITTEE today was true.
Schumer asked Hatch if he would be willing to schedule a full day of questions for one of the nominees.
Hatch said no....and Schumer responded, "Well, there's your answer then."
I KNOW I heard this exchange, didn't I? I hadn't had THAT many glasses of wine!

Fill me in here.....how do you filibuster in committee?
Doesn't the chair control the meeting?
To: justshe
You heard right! Schumer at al are wholly-owned subsidiaries of NARAL and People for the American Way. They regard any soupcon of a leaning away from total abortion support as anathema. They would rather ruin the entire institution of the Legislative branch of our government than ratify a possibly pro-life candidate to a judgeship.

Talk about media bias, got up and wanted to read all the details of the Estrada situation in the LA TIMES -- nothing but a tiny paragraph buried inside the paper headlined that the White House won't turn over his confidential memos.
I suspect among other things the LAT doesn't want Southern California's large Hispanic population to know what the Dems are up to...

Once confirmed, by many here(THANKS!), that I DID hear correctly.....the HOW of a committee filibuster was going to be my next question. I also thought the Chair controlled the clock, so have NO idea. I heard Hatch say a filibuster of a committee would be a first. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Bill Nelson of Florida is up for reelection in 06, and he has no where NEAR the stature of Graham. If Jeb, whose term is up then runs against Nelson, Jeb will easily win. Many people could give Nelson a VERY tough race.
To: PhiKapMom
What would you have them talk about? They are only wasting everyones time. There is nothing to be gained by their actions. But maybe you are in support of their effort. Rino maybe.
To: fifteendogs
HUH? What in the world are you talking about? You don't know me at all because you wouldn't use the RINO tag?
Go back to where you came from please!
