This is great except I think they may have goofed on one thing. Dunham was the Conoco CEO, but the CEO of the combined company is James Mulva.
To: Samurai_Jack
Too repetitive. How about:
Dear Mr. Dunham:
Thank you so much for removing "sexual orientation" from the Concoco/Phillips harassment and discrimination policy.
For too long, members of a minority have been bullying the majority into doing things that do not fit in with that majority's mores. That is something that flat should not be allowed, and your decision not only reflects both the thoughts and feelings of most Americans, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.
For that, I commend you, and once again, thank you.
Yours Truly, etc.

Folks, please take time to drop a note of appreciation to a businessman with a spine.
I grew up in town with a Conoco installation...unfortunately, I didn't have
the right stuff to become an engineer and make a career with them.
But right now...I'd be glad to take a job as janitor (or crude-oil sludge sweeper)
with them...

Maybe ill get a job there knowing that some gaywad wont try to pull somethin
I grew up in a small town with a LARGE Conoco installation.
I get some e-mails from people in the Research and Development area of the company...
the "CC" names on the e-mail list read like "the United Nations" now...but maybe
this press release just shows they've drafted sensible, somewhat conservative talent
into the ranks.
Anyway, given the current "slouching towards Sodom and Gomorrah" by corporation
these day, I'm sorry I don't have even the lowest job in their company.

Bravo Mr Houmatt!!!
And Thank you for a wonderfully elucidated response. I hope that everyone will make use of this resource to present your appreciation to the folks at Conoco/Phillips.

Bump...there's a Conoco station near where I live. From now on, I'll be filling up there.

The policy has been reinstated. This article is a bit old.

Are you sorry now that the decision was reversed as of Wednesday?
Just letting everyone know. I love being the little bit of rain in everyone's sunny day :)

Uh, I'm not sure what you're implying, but even when a company does not list sexual orientation in their nondiscrimination clause it does NOT mean that they will not allow homosexuals to work there. They would need a policy of explicitly disallowing homosexuals from employment, and I know of few non-religious companies that have such policies (Cracker Barrel got rid of theirs some time ago).

Thanks for the info.
For myself, I just oppose this sort of policy because of (at least the appearance)
that a certain group gets something approaching "more than equal" rights.
This falls under the libertarian approach as enunciated by Larry Elder...
if a company wants to be foolish enough to discriminate against a group and lose
their business (and talents)...that's the company's (usually foolish) decision...
we don't need an army of bureaucrats to make this sort of market force do it's job.
