[history]
A second Democratic senator has said he will vote in favor of the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and oppose any attempt by fellow Democrats to filibuster the nominee. After spending 45 minutes with Mr. Estrada last week, Sen. Ben Nelson, Nebraska Democrat, was convinced that "he wouldn't bring a personal agenda to the bench" and that he "understood the difference" between being a judge and making the law, Mr. Nelson said yesterday.

They're beginning to see the light. The warm light of death, if they oppose Estrada.
"Republicans can't have it both ways," Mr. Menendez, New Jersey Democrat, said in a statement. "They can't blatantly call for the end of affirmative action by characterizing it as a quota system, while at the same time, demanding that we support all Hispanic nominees simply because they are Hispanic."
We didn't nominate him because of his race. He's one sharp dude, and a guy who exemplifies why everyone wants to get into the U.S. His heritage is a sidelight that makes his story even more compelling.

Menendez must feel this way because he only got where he is through affirmative action, rather than real ability.

Yep, coming to America at age 17, not speaking much English and then getting a law degree from Harvard by age 24? That is truly remarkable and what being an American is about (hard work yields rewards). It's a pity the reparations and "we're victims" movement led by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton will never figure this out. Well, actually, they have for themselves, but they need to keep their "followers" poor so they will continue to follow.

The Hispanic community disagrees over Mr. Estrada, who would be the first Hispanic to serve on the D.C. Circuit, if confirmed. Rubbish, how would they know. Only extremist liberal Hispanics with political motives won't regocnize him as an Hispanic.

The Hispanic community disagrees over Mr. Estrada, who would be the first Hispanic to serve on the D.C. Circuit, if confirmed. The League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest and largest of the hispanic groups, supports Estrada. Other groups also support him. Those that are oppossed to him are demoncrat puppets like the NAACP and NOW.

Estrada is the same man that Charlie Schummer said was not Hispanic enough for the job! Isn't that like saying Colin Powell is not black emough for the job.
That's mighty white of Chuckie Schumer to say that!

Here in my cube, I can't hear, but can see what's going on. Orrin Hatch is at the podium, and I know they had a quorum call, but what's he saying? Can someone enlighten me?

"Isn't that like saying Colin Powell is not black enough for the job."
Sounds like it to me.
Fact is, anyone who is a Conservative, and happens to be a minority, is not minority enough. I also seem to remember someone calling Colin Powell an Uncle Tom.
This from the party that thinks the Republicans are a bunch of racist. I my be wrong, but there is no former member of the KKK in the Republican party that I know of.
