The problem is this "plan" involves fleeing civilization, which might be necessary, but you're only heading out for 3 days. If the feces hits the rotating device so hard you need to get away from civilization completely you'll need at least a month. It wouldn't take things getting "so bad" to render your survival kit useless. Disrupting the electronic banking system--making credit cards and ATM cards impossible to use--is the way to strike fear into the hearts of Americans. Even with cash, the gas pump at the filling station might not work.

A three-day kit isn't going to help you much if there's a N-B-C attack nearby, but if the supply and distribution system gets messed up for even a little while, it could make all the difference.
