That looks like a standard weekend camping list. Sure is a lot of stuff. By the way, 3 days of stuff is optimistic. If it gets that bad, we will be displaced for months or years.

And, . . . , how many are actually taking this seriously? One percent?

Just a suggestion for those interested. I've had my 72 hour kit for five years now, I rotate the food yearly, check everything else. "If ye are prepared, ye need not fear." I didn't portray this kit as anything else than a 72 hour kit. As a member of the LDS church, we are also counseled to have a year's supply of food and water. Would you like me to post that list? :)

Correct. Think about it. What would it be like in urban areas, say, 36 hours after the store shelves were out of milk????

The idea behind a 72 hour kit is that it takes about 72 hours after a disaster for all relief agencies to get things running smoothly. The kit then covers you for that period of time.

Not very many people can have everything ready to deal with a long-term crisis, but most everyone can get a 72 hour pack together easily enough.

You are correct! Very few take this seriously, so if it comes to a real emergency, those that have the foresight to store food had better be armed too. By the way, we bought a whole case of 72 assorted MREs from a military supply store last week for $70. A real steal and these meals taste pretty good.

Well, I can tell you that some people are still eating the food they stored for the Y2K problems that didn't materialize.
