Ananova:

Demand for breast implants causes silicon shortage in Brazil

Plastic surgeons in Brazil say they are running out of silicon because so many women want breast implants ahead of the world-famous carnival.

Paulo Matsudo, director of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, says demand for breast - and buttock - implants is at record levels.

He told Terra Noticias Populares: "The summertime plus the proximity with carnival, that starts on March 1, are increasing the demand for silicone breast implants. Imports are not sufficient to meet so many requests.

"Brazil is a tropical country with a huge seaside and the population shows off their bodies a lot. Brazil is a country that likes beauty and people want to have plastic surgery."

Dr Matsudo also says Brazilians are also looking more and more for buttock silicone implants.

"Brazilians value the buttocks very much. We are doing lots of this kind of surgery as well," he said.

Sandra Guerra, from the Perrose Pherthese silicone company, said: "The demand is too high. We have lost many sales in the last couple of months because we don't have enough prosthesis."

Isn't Giselle Bundchen from Brazil?

I think I see the national obsession and attraction for well-formed, er physical attributes.

You know:

Yes, they want to be like Giselle... ahem...

However, SHE claims they are 100 percent REAL... sans silicone if you will...

"Demand for breast implants causes silicon shortage in Brazil."

OK, guys, I've enclosed some photos from a brazilian bikini e-shop. Suggest we vote on the ... er ... apparent legitimacy of each lovely's anatomy. A "yes" vote indicates your expert judgment suspects artificial enhancement.
