I thought the exact same thing at 13. Now after reading it in my 20's , and now I'm 30, I find myself reading "DUNE" at least once every year and the series once every other year.

Frank Herbert is as genious with science fiction as Tolkien is to fiction.

Try Clark's Rama series.

So incredibly boring I just stopped reading them.

I agree...I tried for years and I finally made it thru Dune last year. Boring.

I think the thing that may have perked it up would have been some character development. The relationship dynamics are like cardboard.

I haven't tried either of these books, but if you really want to cure insomnia, try either "Babbit," by Sinclair Lewis, or "Das Capital," by Karl Marx!
