Noticed last night that SCIFI channel is advertising the new Children of Dune miniseries which will be airing on March 16th at 9PM. Both the books DUNE MESSIAH, and CHILDREN OF DUNE will be worked into the Miniseries. Susan Sarandon is playing Princess Wensicia. That almost ruins this for me, but I think it's a minor part.

Yeech - those Dune books have to be THE most boring series I ever tried to read. And I'll read damn near anything.

It scared me to death when it was first rumored that Susan Saranwrap was to portray Lady Jessica! However, she is in the minor role of Princess Wensicia, evil sister to Princess Irulan. This looks to be a wonderful sequel to the first miniseries.

This is the perfect place to ask...I want to give my nephew Dune to read his parents are divorced and any little thing starts a court battle from the other side. Do you see anything wrong with giving a 13 year old boy Dune to read? Thanks!

I can't wait for the third Mini series. The second book was by far the worst in the series.
I didn't much care for the first mini-series. It protrayed the Barren as a mostly normal person with ambitions towards galactic domination. In the book he is the epitome of evil.
But then again I love the 3.5 hour film much better than the first mini. So take that into account when judging my opinion.

Having read all six books I have two observations:
1) Did Frank Herbert remember what he wrote in the first two books when he wrote the last two? The part of Scytale (sp?) is just one instance.
2) I re-read them recently and it seemed one long love note for Islam and he slammed the Jews by having them sell out the BeneGesserit (Lucinda?) who carried the memories of an entire planet.
Oh yeah, nice butcher job by David Lynch, weirding modules???? Rain at the end. Beautiful sets though.
I saw the Director's cut and it had more of the book but Lynch is just plain weird. "I want to spit just once on the Lady Jessica..."
He also insisted that the gas Duke Leto exhaled to try to kill the Baron be a certain color of yellow. He even talked Jurgen Prochnow into having a tube inserted through his cheek to get the desired effect. Luckily, I think the studio said no. For people that think Lynch is a genius I have one word, Eraserhead.

Their remake of the original Dune as a mini-series was dreadful; I expect nothing less of the lesser remakes.
And, BTW, did you know that huge sections of Dune were plagiarized from the works of Cordwainer Smith?...

If that wasn't enough to make you boycot the broadcast, try the fact that Vivendi onwns Sci-Fi Channel!
Two commie/anti-American connections too many for me. And I am the consumate Dune supporter...even with the very pro-Suni/Sufi slant that Herbert had. Had he lived to today, maybe the Fremen would have been Jews...not the Bene Tleilax.

As much as I loved the Dune series--and CHILDREN OF DUNE most of all--I won't patronize Susan Sarandon, even if she is evil enough to be the possessed Alia.

I have been real happy with the miniseries so far. I didnt want to miss a second. It looks like there will be three parts?
Alia is yummy. Her charactor saddens me the most. I felt her pain and sorrow more then any other when I read the book.
