Precedent has been set before, Ladies and Gentlemen.
In 1999 for 78 days, NATO under the direction of Clinton, bombed a tiny sovereign country ,Yugoslavia . We went in FOR HUMANITARIAN REASONS!!!!!!
Confirmation that airstrikes had begun came from NATO Secretary-General Javier Solana in Brussels. Mr Solana said the attacks had a direct purpose: to bring an end to the humanitarian catastrophe now taking place in Kosovo. He put the blame squarely on Yugoslav President Milosevic. "Clear responsibility for the airstrikes lies with President Milosevic, who has refused to stop his violent action in Kosovo and has refused to negotiate in good faith".
This in itself is enough for the UN to go in after Saddam. Another reason:
.Well then let's liberate these poor people and put an end to their hardship from such a brutal dictator. Stop the need for sanctions ..makes sense, doesn't it Mad Maddie???
All of this was accomplished with the blessing of NATO, the Congress ,( Senate approves strikes) and the anti-war movement.....you didn't see any large antiwar protests back then, did you????? (With the exception of the Serbian American Orthodox Christian community,of which I include myself, protests were quite small around the country and recieved little or no press. We had no Susan Saradons, and the rest of the hypocrit blowhards on our side. What about the Serb victims, which were plenty? Where were you Sheryl Crow to protest the 'There will be many Civilian Casualty Crowd'???????There were many civilian deaths. Hollyweird was silent and remains silent on the Serb victims.
Could it be now that there is a Republican as President that these same war mongorers have become doves?
The UN was NOT on board when attacks started on Serbia. NATO warplanes launched air strikes against Serbian targets in Yugoslavia Wednesday with the United Nations very much on the sidelines - leading UN officials and legal experts to ponder the legitimacy of the strikes. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, speaking within hours of the first strikes by NATO planes on targets in Kosovo, exemplified both sides of the debate: Diplomacy had failed to halt the bloodshed in Kosovo but the UN Security Council should have played a role before any attack.
They are on board now. Take advantage of it.
As bad as some may think Slobo was, (jury is still out on him), Slobo's crimes paled in comparison to that of the Butcher of Bagdad.
Slobo , or his son, never threatened to poison the Americans if America strikes.
Slobo never looked to conquer any lands that weren't in his sovereignty.
Slobo, never gassed thousands of his minority citizens
Slobo hasn't tried to get weapons of mass destruction
Slobo never sent missiles to Israel or other neighboring countries while fighting his own civil war.
Point of Interest:
While researching my links on a US NATO website
I found most all of Bill Clinton's articles addressing the Kosovo war, months worth, missing .Not Found The requested object does not exist on this server. The link you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server has been instructed not to let you have it.
How convieeeeeeeeenient!!!!!!!!
I'm just sick of the double standard on this issue. Tired of all the opposition and Euroweenies moaning about possible casualties. Talk show hosts, please ask your anti-war crowd to answer these questions.
Well Wonk.....Then explain why most Serbs were cleansed from the Krajina region and why there are so few in Kosovo???????????
Gee, last I checked, most wars/fights occur between sovereign countries. Does the use of the word "sovereign" have some hidden definition of "not to be attacked"? Nazi Germany was a sovereign country. Imperial Japan was a sovereign country. Taliban Afghanistan was a sovereign country. That's what wars are -- they are fights between "sovereign" countries.
Oh, and you're most definitely a Slobo apologist.
Same thing in most of Kosovo, except that the Serbian efforts to chase all the Kosovars out was stopped before it could be completed.
Slobo is a thug....Serbia's thug...and should be tried for his crimes by the Serbian people, not some kangaroo court.
Once OUR interests are at stake, they're vocal opponents.
The only people who were fellow travelers with the nazis were Croatians and the SSunits from Bosnia who were Muslims. Therefore you should know from whence you speak. Explain this if you will; Before World War II there were more than 1 million Serbs living in the Krajina. At the start of the nineties there were perhaps a half million. Now there are only tens of thousands. Who invented ethnic cleansing and who is achieving their goal of ethnic purity?
The fact remains that all these problems were internal to Yugoslavia. Saddam Hussein has invaded another country, persecuted his own people and struck a country with missles with whom he was not at war. In light of 9/11 and the damage this country sustained, he and his ilk are not far at any time from the terrorists, even if they are not implicated.
From the Yugoslav SurveyXXXII March 1990-91 the Serb were 700,000 with an additional 400,000 Yugoslavs.
YOUR MISSING THE POINT, IF SLOBO WAS/IS A THUG....THEN SADDAM IS/WAS/AND ALWAYS WILL BE A MONSTER!!!!!!!!
