The U.S. can do it "unilaterally". I think the inspectors will get one last option to leave or follow the smart bombs to find what the inspectors were there to find in the first place.

Biden (of all people) quite forcefully brought this up not too long ago. Said exactly what you just said and he said something along the lines of being frustrated with the administration for not saying this more and getting rid of the "pre-emptive" language.

Biden said this? I'm in shock. It's the one mis-step or non-step the administration has taken, IMO. It's such an effective argument and should be used more often, both in the press and before the UN.

Let me suggest that it is both a continuation of what we're allowed to do uner 687 & 1441 AND a premtive strike against Saddam to prevent his further proliferation of WMD's. So really it can be argued that what we're gonna do is actually two different things rolled into one single operation.

We're going to have to kill anyone who LOOKS like Sa-damn.

Oh, yeah. Now might be a good time for those look-alikes to dye their hair and have someone knock out their teeth or something.

...BILL CLINTON can assume the Head of the Labour Party and...
...then become the new Prime Minister of an England that...
...does not require he be born there...
...to rule it.

You are scaring the crap out of me.

If I recall the correct timing of this, it was shortly after President Bush gave his state of the union address. I was watching tv and saw Biden speaking at some hearing and he was saying exactly that. Shocked me too. Made me a bit angry too that he, of all people, was the one to say it.

Wives of paratroopers are being advised to make sure that life insurance is up to date, powers of attorney are signed and bank accounts can be accessed in the event that their husbands do not return.

Hi, Miss Marple. Thanks for the link. Always regretted so much not taping him that day. What a fine speech. I think it's getting to be time to provide the ladies with a few of those quick recipes we've talked about. Need to feed our husbands while we surf FR.

exclusive interview to be broadcast on BBC1's Panorama at 10.30 tonight, Rihab Taha, who studied at the University of East Anglia and is known as "Dr Germ", said that she does not trust the inspectors

Who interviewed her and when, I wonder.

I had the same feeling until Marc Racicot became head of the RNC. He is doing an outstanding job. On MTP he turned McAullif(sp)on his ear, for his spin on pre-emption.

>>>...[Saaad dam] hasn't done anything worth sending a quarter of a million GI's half way around the world to attack.

On that we'll have to respectfully disagree

Sorry, I disagree with you here, Peach - but then, you always have been a lady.

Cal: I CATEGORICALLY DISAGREE. Knowing what you certainly know from your military experience, and having heard and read (I assume) Powell's address, and realizing from your military experience, as well as from the subsequent statements of the congressmen on the Intelligence Committees that is truly only the tip of the iceberg as far as our knowledge of the situation in Iraq, your French behavior is appalling! When even antimilitary dimwits like Sen.Feinstein have finally conceded the need to disarm Saaad dam, why are you asking for our men to be confronted with even greater blackmail and Iraqi power in 5-10 years? Why are you asking for even more casualties?

My compatriots in the military believe we have waited far too long to finish this job. I must confess to questioning your contention that you are ex-military, and I very seldom question such statements FReepers make about themselves.

I suppose that could be argued as well. However, what Biden was saying is that even without any other resolutions, that Sadam had failed to do what he agreed to do in the cease fire agreement. He said that alone was enough for us to go back in and it should not be considered pre-emptive. Don't know if it was all show but it seemed very different attitude than what I recall he had prior to that.

I can see how the west coast people, aside from being liberal, feel so far removed from it all. Also, they didn't see the action "live" - they were sleeping - until their phones started ringing.

A lot of us experienced MOST of it live, and we are not over it. When I saw the second plane hit, within minutes of it happening (I sleep with the radio on and the screaming witness awakened me), it seemed to change my life forever, even though it was across the country. All of the USA is us. We are the whole country. Hit one part of us, you've hit us all. I knew that second that it was some kind of war. (The first plane hitting seemed like it could be some hideous accident.) I haven't been quite the same since. I had hoped not to live through a Pearl Harbor type day in my lifetime.

This story is from the the News.Telegraph.com. British paper, if memory serves. Probably Sunday edition, which means interview runs Sunday.

I just grabbed the story from Drudge and forgot to credit, etc.

It's always made me angry the right does not defend itself forcefully enough. I used to think it was just a matter of getting face time in the media, which given the bias of the media isn't always easy. But I've since come to realize that isn't the problem. I don't know what the problem actually IS, but getting face time with the media isn't one of them. We at FR do a better job defending the right than they do themselves. Maybe they should hire us on as a PR firm! We could write better copy for them.

Prayers and deepest thanks to the soldiers and their families. Remember, when it all starts in Iraq, if your flag isn't already flying - fly it high.
