Sorry to get series here, but amateur radio has often enough been the only means of communication during emergencies, and a lot of times it has been Morse code. If anyone is interested in preparedness, consider learning code and radio. You'll need a license to practice broadcasting unless there is an actual emergency, but the license is easy to get.
