SAVAGE TALK: A former herbalist has remade himself into the vitriol-spewing king...
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/6/2003 | Dan Fost, Chronicle Staff Writer

Michael Savage is egotistical, opinionated and profane. He yells at callers to his radio show, "The Savage Nation," and hangs up on them -- even some who agree with him.

He's the son of an immigrant who bashes immigrants, a former academic who rips academia, a well-heeled professional who strikes a chord with the common people.

It may have seemed an odd question but somehow her book got classified under "feminist studies" or something like that. She's discussed it on her radio show. Such classification in the coding can keep her out of the political issues section of the bookstore.

I can't listen 24/7 (or in this case, 4/5), but they certainly don't mention Savage anymore. Savage tends to really rub people the wrong way after awhile, even those he's supposed to be on the same side with. I remember Jim Eason got down on Savage at some point when he was still on the air.

Savage, while spot on and entertaining at times, is a terrible interviewer, over-emotional, and self-contradictory. Like when he praises Pat Buchanan for his stance on "borders, language, and culture," then the next day ripping him for being a Nazi, then the next day be all kissy-faced with him again.

Excellent show. Lee "What is wrong with you people?" Rodgers with the lovely and congenial Melanie Morgan. And Brian Sussman is a good fill-in on Mondays.

I bought it for my mom last Christmas but I read it in like three days. I got a TON of dirty looks from the Barnes & Noble people. Gee Imagine that.

"Why aren't we demanding erudition, seriousness, and quiet dignity of our spokesmen?"

Like NPR?

Consider that we've had this guy for years and he fits your description:

...but Buckley never motivated me to take my anger and frustration with the Clinton regine and turn it to useful action.

One night while listening to Savage, he suggested candlelight vigils during the 2000 election debacle....I wanted more, so I called in and said that I would be in Justin Herman Plaza to march through San Francisco to tell Gore "No More". We had a large crowd that weekend and we all discovered that there are really many conservatives around here...not just a couple.

We need to push the envelope and take our frustration with years of dignified and lonely passive conservatism, and turn it into decisive, well planned, public action to move the sheeple away from the cliff of socialism.

Savage and Rush give us that fire....not that they are always 100% correct in content or form, nobody is...but they have the brass cajones and aren't afraid to put them up on the block.

Congratulations Savage! A lonely voice in the world CAN make a difference.

If I'm not mistaken Melanie Morgan is the wife of Swanson, a self-described "ACLU liberal"

Well, I don't doubt Swanson being a liberal, it's hard to believe a conservative and a liberal could have a good marriage. But I believe Melanie and Jack do, and they have a teenage skateboarding son who is a cool kid.

SeeSeeSee, why isn't there a Melanie Morgan rule like the Coulter one??

And here is the morning crew minus the big shot, he had a previous engagement this particular day...

"Steve" pushed the flag up just a little too much...but Melanie managed to help hold it up...

I sometimes get mad at Michael Savage -- so mad that I turn off the radio. But I always go back. I have a certain loyalty to him. You see, I started listening to him in November 2000 -- right after the election. I was so mad, and so scared -- the Republicans are always so polite and I thought, surely they will just concede to the hard-ass hard-ball being played by Gore (actually Begala, Carvile and McAuliffe)(not to mention Daley!). I had to listen to all the people at work putting down Bush and laughing that he would be a pushover for Gore. Michael Savage was the ONLY one who said what I felt. Every evening, as I went home in my car, I'd listen to what he said. Sometimes quietly, sometimes crying, sometimes cheering, and sometimes doing what I call "Scream Along With Mike!" (for those old enough to remember "Sing Along with Mitch"!)

Especially here in the Bay Area, but I suspect all over the country, the liberal media made everyone feel like the liberal worldview was the ONLY worldview. If you dared to think, "But wait, that doesn't fit with my experience, or with common sense!" -- you were ignored, you were wrong, your experience was discounted.

Did you ever see the old movie "Gaslight" where Ingrid Bergman is being tormented by her evil husband (Claud Rains? Peter Lorre?). He wants her money and is trying to drive her crazy so he can have her committed. So he has someone go in the attic and make noises -- when Ingrid gets spooked and says "What was that???" he looks at her like she's crazy -- "I didn't hear anything dear, are you sure you're feeling all right?" She begins to doubt her own thoughts, even her own senses.

Those B---ds have been trying to "Gaslight" us for years. Thanks to Michael Savage (and Jim Robinson, and all you Freepers) now we KNOW we are not alone. We are not even a minority. We are a majority, and we won't be a Silent Majority anymore! We NEED Warriors like Savage. We NEED people to fight back! He is right, only a more savage nation will survive!

Honestly, I find him absolutely awful - completely unbearable.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the NY Metro area, but I like the way Savage talks. I think a lot of people are turned off not by what he says, but by how he says it (with that annoying NY street accent). BTW, I also like the way Savage thinks. He dares to put ugly truths on the airwaves. If you can't handle it, no one is forcing you to listen.

The best thing Sean has going for him is he comes across as a guy with integrity. I'd trust him with my car or wife.

Friend:

We're still so angry because of the incredible damage the Clinton's did in their wonderful CAMEalot mess. How can you rest easier knowing how they've aided the Chinese with nukes and allowed our borders be over-run with both garden variety illegals and sleeper-cell killers the government has admitted they haven't rounded up yet? Time to reach down and see if you've got a pair and then act like it. If yolu're a female conservative, act like you've got 'em as well!!

"Bill Clinton? Regular guy. Cheated on his wife. Loved America....I'm ACTUALLY a conservative. Because I thought my way to the position."

With ALL due respect to "very tall stalks of celery," I don't know ANY "conservative" thinkers who by any stretch of the imagination consider Bill Clinton a "regular guy." NOR especially does ANY "conservative" opine that he EVER as you maintain (cough, hack, gag) "loved America." Perhaps you are an in-denial "conservative" -- in drag.

"The man has been out of office for THREE YEARS--and he ain't never coming back, and neither's his wife... but there are still people, and i'm not mentioning any names, whose primary motivation for getting out of bed in the morning is to find a new way of hating the guy. Ain't nuthin gonna change. Game over. They're done.

"Done"?? "Never coming back"??

Hillary's a U.S. Senator on the Armed Forces committee AND Democratic front-running Presidential candidate from the radical Left -- Bubba's in the news spouting his inane "presidential" opinion every day of the week.

What planet are you from? Does it begin with a "D" and end with a "U"??

I agree -- And these days it's difficult to convey that kind of impression...

It's why the Left is absolutely helpless against Sean Hannity -- his style is devastatingly effective.

I'll listen to Savage ONLY if there is no one else on. As for Stern ---- his arrested developement in the bathroom humor stage, makes me wonder if he ever grew up.

I will never understand the appeal of someone whose schtick consists of ranting about whatever subject pops into his head...and the vast majority of talk radio hosts, to a greater or lesser extent, use this format.

About the only one I can bear for more than three minutes is Hannity. To me he shows some humility. Savage makes my brain and ears hurt.

Here in the Philadelphia area from 9 to noon, we are subjected to the worst 3 hours of "talk radio", Glenn Beck.... talk about a guy stealing money. Would someone please tell me how this guy got to be syndicated? A waste of 50,000 Watts of broadcasting.

I'm told that I'm out of the loop, the age factor (57), so I don't count. You must have knowledge of his ratings.... no one from WPHT 1210 AM will post the results.
