My big problem with any hate crimes law is that we need to enforce our laws equally and execute murders that are guilty beyond any doubt. I could care less that this guy killed someone in a gay-bashing incident. I must say Texas seems to have it right and executes those that so desparately deserve it.

Check out Meed's link in his post #1.

It's not like they have it all that bad. James Collier, # 999190, was executed on 12/11/2002 for the murder of two adults while he was attempting to murder his 12 year-old biological daughter. His guilt was well established and he went to Huntsville.

The State of Texas Dept. of Corrections also has a last dinner request menu that can get rather bizzare. James Collier requested and received thirty jumbo shrimp, cocktail sauce, baked potato, French fries, ketchup, butter, one t-bone steak, one chocolate malt, one gallon of vanilla ice cream, and three cans of Big Red before he was dripped away, years after his victims died.

I absolutely agree. Remember during the Prez election campaign in 2000 hate crime came up as an issue? President Bush, the candidate pointed out that the white men from Jasper, Texas received the death penalty (all but 1 maybe). They had tied or chained James Byrd, a black man, to the back of their pickup truck and dragged him to his decapitation death. It was a horrible thing. Bush pointed out that Texas enforces the laws and executes these animals. Murder is wrong, regardless what aspect might drive the evil deed.

Thanks !

As an aside, the NAACP ran that stupid ad that pretty much accused Bush of being behind the wheel of that truck too. Sheesh !
