I have two of the most liberal Senators. I have e-mailed both, and have received no reply. How do they get elected?(rhetorical) I grew up in Calif. when it was truely the Golden State, but no more.

My state (NY) has two very liberal senators, too. Moderates and conservatives in my state have no representation in the US Senate.

I think Schumer was uncharacteristically low-key, while Hillary ran for her Senate seat. And I think he behaved that way so that non-liberal New Yorkers would not realize that electing Hillary would mean throwing moderates (as well as conservatives) out into the cold.
