I think Ladyx has a point of faint praise that cannot be overemphasized:

The Thin Man is not completely devoid of friends here.

He is not hopelessly and utterly without friends here.

Although he is The Thin Man and his reputation does proceed him, it is NOT the case that, among all the people who at any time over lo' these many years have posted here, there is NO ONE who would "call him" friend.

Or, to put the matter in a more positive light, there is at least ONE PERSON of all the people who over lo' these many years who have posted here who have, at least at one particular point of time, called The Thin Man their friend.

I like to put that more positive spin on it, don't you?

Glad you mentioned our deer hunter, Billie.
G'nad, here is a fair-sized rack.

When we lived in Fairbanks, Alaska,
I went moose and caribou hunting with my husband,
taking the children along on a camping week near Mt. McKinley.

Had my own 30.06 with scope, and in my sights
had a trophy caribou, headed down toward me.
Big Problem, however.
Some distance behind them, were three men -
figured if I shot the caribou, they'd shoot me,
trailing him for some time, I imagine!

With low military pay, we were hard hit by the high cost
of living in Fairbanks.
Those first months we had a lot of free, ancient C-rations
left over from the Korean Conflict,
(loved the chicken and the fruitcake!LOL)
and a good deal of moose and caribou meat shared by others.
While caribou was an odd combination of liver and pork in taste, the moose in a pot roast was good!
