A significant segment of the Left wouldn't support war even if we were attacked!
"Better Red Than Dead" was not a bumper sticker. It reflected a mentality with a long lineage that went back, among other roots, to occupied France.
In the Left's universe, the only thing possibly worth dying for is a tree. They don't have a problem with subjection or slavery---they beg for it all the time out of their own government, so if the government changes hands by force . . . well, what's the difference.
