The responses at this meeting will not be significant. The diplomats who are speaking had what they would say prepared and approved by their respective administrations before they arrived. The Chinese diplomat would have said that if Powell had shown naked pictures of Barbara Boxer, or if Powell had shown pictures of Saddam feeding anthrax spores directly to infants.

What will be important is what Chinese diplomats say tomorrow, and what French diplomats say tomorrow, and so forth.

And when I say important, I mean in a relative way. In the grand scheme of things, what matters is what the President thinks is important, and what the American people think is important.

That's what I first thought of with China. They would have urged delay even if atomic weapons on missiles were found. I hope people think about the ramifications of that.
