If we wait for a smoking gun, this would mean we would be waiting for Saddam to use his biological or chemical or nuclear weapons. We do not want a "smoking gun", so we will prevent that from happening. Inappropriate term for the current situation.

Trust me, this will be QUITE good. I agree. I think Powell is really finally ticked & feels betrayed (okay, yeah, I've said this a bunch of times, but it bears repeating...). He oughtta step up to the plate on this one in pretty solid condition.

"Both have significant Arab immigrant populations."
ANd I suspect do not have the manpower etc to protect themselves from within; therefore, are playing timid.

Powell is such a jerk on a myriad of issues
Matthews on Hardball last night kept touting an L.A. Times poll that shows that "people believe Powell over Bush by a 3 to 1 margin on the issue of Iraq"
Who the hell did they ask? When after the SOTU last week 77% of poll responders said the case had been made. I HATE the media. HATE! They will do everything possible to undermine the Bush's support, including "rigging" the results of a poll. HATE!
Sorry, had to get that off my shoulders. Returning to normal, soon.

I, myself, think Shep's "magical policeman" remark belongs in the *Smithsonian*! :-)

Yes, Shep is up and said Fox news has learned that Powell does indeed have audio recordings that have the Iraqis laughing at their ability to hide things from the inspectors.
Who will have the last laugh?

I don't think I care to hear those calls to C-SPAN. I can only take so much "No war for oil" babble.

Hardball's ratings are in the toilet. Deep breathe. It'll pass. Much like stray liberal thoughts.

LOL! BTW, I have been out of earshot of a TV or radio over the last 5 days.
In '62 the US was in the thick of the Cold War. The stakes then were much higher and the USSR was a far more dangerous foe. Iraq will squawk but have little to say in response.

Perhaps we should start a "Goofy Comments Hall of Fame."
That magical policeman comment was one for the ages, that's for sure.

Good Morning. This should be a very interesting thread.
I hope that Powell takes the ball from the President for a short 90 minutes and makes our case to the UN forcefully.
Either the UN proves itself irrelevant (not a bad outcome as it opens up the possibility of a better form of international cooperation).
Or the UN gets on board, we get this done, and the UN gets another chance real soon with the next rogue. Hopefully it can be much more streamlined next time.

May I take a moment to say that Chris Matthews has been disgraceful lately.
He should be ashamed of himself.
