The initial Gulf War ended with an agreement by an Iraq to disarm - it's all part of the UN resolutions. I always wondered if war could be re-started merely due to a treaty violation.

The fools at DU are obvious racists, in my view. Merely because Saddam is browner than George W. Bush, they see him as being less capable of being a threat.

The way I heard it.

He said that Powell's words on concealment were false and it was something that Scott Ritter made up (that was then-reverse of what Ritter is saying now) and to ask him about it. He is still happily still around.

I still can't get their reasoning that the US is in violation of the resolution -- because we didn't tell what evidence we were collecting about iraqi missdeeds ?? Are they admitting that they're doing something wrong ?? It's the same as them saying "we have no WMD" but if you attack us "we will use chemical weapons on your troops"

Those of us listening, without the benefit of e-mail communication with Shep, simply heard the "some kind of magical pollicemen" statement. Later, when you have time, go back and check the live thread.

I like Shep, and I think he has a good heart. Once in a while though, he gets a bit excitable and an occasional goofy phrase comes out. He will, I am sure, improve.

And he is definitely an improvement over any of the other network anchors (Rather, Jennings, etc.) and it WAS a funny statement!

Yes, it was a compelling tale that Iraqi told. Caught with a gun - shot on the spot. Say one word against the regime - disappear forever. Said some of his own family disappeared without a trace some eleven years ago. (I know you just heard it, Tg, just repeating for benefit of the forum.) He confirmed every allegation of abuse, lying and power by terror that has been made.
