A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 2/4/03

In a day filled with emotions, tributes, and tears, President Bush and First Lady Laura attended the memorial service for the astronauts whose lives were lost in the space shuttle Columbia tragedy on Saturday. The President spoke to the crowd of at least 10,000 teary eyed mourners, and eulogized the Columbia crew. In the closing moments of his speech, Bush spoke to the children of the crew by saying, 'And to the children who miss your Mom or Dad so much today, you need to know, they love you, and that love will always be with you. They were proud of you. And you can be proud of them for the rest of your life.' The First Couple returned to Washington this evening. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya.

Yes, he definitely has the gift of faith, and I will carry that with me, for sure!

(May God grant me the gift of patience and peace over the next year......I think I love my kids too much!)

Rintense, thank you for all of the time and effort you put in to the "Dose" every evening. So very glad that your shoulder is mending well ~~ baseball starts soon, eh?

Couldn't bring myself to watch the memorial service, but listened to it. I was in the car during the President's eulogy and I'm not sure I could actually see the road for the tears. What a Man!

Rintense, you always find the perfect quote, and great pictures. Today was another emotional one, on this roller coaster we know as "life" right now, and it's great to have the DOSE to come to this and every evening.

If y'all want to feel like you did something today - go visit OPRAH'S POLL asking about Iraq......it needs some major freeping by some logical thinking BushBots!

Thank you all for your kind words, and especially for your prayers.

WVNan, I know the story about the hymnwriter......what an amazing faith he possessed!

And, Inspectorette, Eric would be embarrassed to tears if he knew all the stuff I say about him on the Dose!

He's humble........I'm not! :o)

They have shed more tears over America in two years than the last several Presidents combined.

Ah yes......baseball, football, soccer, track, or cross country cleats? I've tripped over them all!

(And that doesn't include the tennis and basketball shoes that don't have cleats!)

If you didn't know the reason they were looking up to the sky

The interesting thing to me is that ex fighter pilot Bush is looking at something different than most of the rest. I think he and the widow(?) are looking at the "missing" plane, the one that pulls up and away from the rest of the formation in the "missing man" formation. So in a way he was watching the missing asend into heaven, at least in his mind's eye.

The only time I've seen that formation live was after the gulf war. An Army Guard Medivac unit lost one of it's crews and flew the formation over the state capital, which was the terminus of the parade route. So it was with Huey's and not high performance jets, but just as moving nonetheless.

Thank you so much for posting the daily scripture -- if I miss it at night, I see it in the morning and it really helps me to remember that I need to get quiet and pray before the day begins, before the world crowds its way in -- and thank you for keeping the list of those who are serving our country -- for those who aren't sure what to do with the list -- it's enough just to repeat the names (or the relationship) and ask for their protection and peace for them and their friends/family -- the Lord will know who you're talking about

I saw most of the ceremony today -- it was difficult to get thru' but the President was strong and comforting -- the look on his face and on Laura's at times was heartbreaking -- the fact that he replaced his customary flag pin with the shuttle pin was so thoughful -- when he spoke to the children about their lost parents, boy did I get teary-eyes at that -- and when the chaplins recited Psalm 23 in both Hebrew and English -- that touched me deeply -- the whole ceremony was beautifully done

That's good you're feeling better this week.

My Sr. Govn't class was kind of a joke. We had a golf coach who didn't teach us anything about govn't, but everything about improving our golf swing. I always told him that I learned more from watching CSPAN than I did from him.

**Eric is leaving for Ft. Campbell Monday in preparation for mobilization.

What a wonderful, brave young man. You both will be in my thoughts & prayers. "...peace like a river" ~ That's something to strive for.

Hi ohioWfan,

I was sitting here trying to come up with the right thing to say... and you said it first ! It is well with my soul-

I did have a thought (when am I at a loss for words ? LOL) Eric is in some mighty fine company. Think of all of the patriots that have come before him in the defense of our country ? Now, think of all of the men and women that have put on a uniform of the Armed Forces of the United States in the defense of America AND her allies ? The sheer numbers are staggering. Every single war time hero and every single serving member in peacetime, comprises the finest fighting forces the world has ever known. A selfless act. A man... a woman... takes an oath pledging all, for the greater good.

I humbly ask the good Lord for the protection of Eric and all of the men and women, stepping up in this hour of need to defend our nation from all enemies foreign and domestic. Make your hedge of protection strong Lord. Give us strength. Reveal our friends. Bring us together. Thank you Lord.

Tis a mother's job to brag on her kids. So given that, may I say that my son's band came in 5th place at the 29th Annual International Competition of the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) in Nashville this past weekend. They survived three elimination rounds and came in 5th out of 28 bands. I'm super proud of them.
