France is no longer an ally of the United States and the NATO alliance "must develop a strategy to contain our erstwhile ally or we will not be talking about a NATO alliance" the head of the Pentagon's top advisory board said in Washington Tuesday...

My guess is that the EU will develop its military power. Someday, it may even be dominant.

Only if Germany takes over. The EU is a bunch of bickering countries that spent the entire twentieth century tring to conquer each other.

At some point in time this bickering will rise to the surface again and the EU (and the Euro) will blow away in the wind.

A Clinton or Gore guy would cower in fear that we aren't friends with the French, and would agonize over what we must be doing wrong.

More "quote of the day" material...

The French: The only people who can speak pidgeon English (badly) and find it superior to the native variety.

1778 - February. France signs a treaty of alliance with the United States

"Old Europe"....nothing since, except for having to rather grudgingly dedicate a few acres for the cemeteries of the Americans who saved their wine-swilling, head-in-sand asses.

"Our dislike of the French is a recently occurring phenomenon rather than a historical one"

Very true...I'm wondering if the Society is still in shock over WWII 'cuz they seem to value a Procrastinatin'Peace to genuine FReedomfromFEAR...it wasn't always thus.

"...it is the French themselves that have achieved this result through their Herculean efforts to remove all doubt as to what a sorry pack of ungrateful sons-of-bitches they are."

My in-laws are of French-Canadien ancestry and full-fledged BigGuv'ment toadies, but they realize what a great country America is and what AWESOME sacrifices Americans have made to preserve the FReedom of Peoples accross the Globe...it is certainly embarrassing to all of FRench descent to see France sink to such an embarrassing low. Heck, I also got a lotta German blood in me veins...I thought the whole Nazi thing was bad enuff, but now they're undercutting their Country's liberator..."what a sorry pack of ungrateful sons-of-bitches they are!!"

FReegards...MUD

BTW...one of the MODS called me a FReak the other day...LOL!!!

Correct...they Normans are the Vikings who early beat down the French. Even in France's greatest conquest, they truly can't take the credit.

I don't think it will be long before the EU melts. Britain will SINK before she is ruled by France and Germany.

It's about time someone said this about this anti-Semitic, anti-Israel, anti-USA, Socialist, Freedom-Hating country.

I'd add an adjective here or there but basically you've nailed it.

Good observation. Please do not infer from my comments that I'm a fan of France or the French. But as a former journalist, I'm a stickler for accurate reporting. While Walker got it right, the guy who wrote the headline bent journalism into propaganda. I'm against that no matter who does it.

I hadn't. And the headline annoyed me also; I liked Perle's remarks, but I would have loved them had he said what the headline writer wrote.

That was when the French actually stood for something good.

Of course, they took their time getting here to help out then as well.

If it doesn't hold water at all, why did a reporter do an article on it?

He is a civilian, not an administration official, yes, but apparently in an organization important enough about the military to be quoted. I am not being quoted by UPI. He obviously matters some, but certainly you are right that it is not much.

France still has several possessions in North America located near the mouth of the St. Lawrence River.

BTW, good point about the headline. The reporter has violated journalistic ethics by altering the quote from "no longer the ally it once was" to "no longer ally." That is a HUGE difference in meaning. If he wanted to quote that in the headline, it should have been "France...no longer...ally" That obviously would not look good, so he chose the easy way out.

Napolean was Corsican, not French, so no exceptions after all!

Oh well. Isn't it interesting that most of the near-historical despots haven't quite been born in the countries that they ruined?

If our leaders ever again entertain thought of helping the French out of a jam, they're crazy!

My own idea of liberating France from the next Hitler wanna-be is to first liberate everyone else, then carpet-bomb from the Atlantic to the Rhine/Alps/Low Countries, and from the English Channel to the Med.
