Precisely.

The blood is strong.

There's that whole "French & Indian War" thing, too....;)

( hey...how come nobody's mentioned Canada yet? )

Blimey. And I thought our historical dislike of the French was not something that could be duplicated.

The French have been your historic enemies for the past nine hundred years, ever since the Normans got run out of Normandy by the French kings. After all, they weren't Franks now, were they?

Besides, the Normans were smart enough to conquer an island fortress of a nation.

This interview will keep the lights on in Paris. It comes from Richard Perle. The French understand that he has great influence in the Administration, and will come to believe that it reflects Administration thinking and a potential shift in American grand strategy.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

One worthy addition. The Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo celebrates the triumphant victory of a group of Mexican farmers armed with sticks and tools over a professional and well armed French troops.

(Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day: September 16.)

Damn, here I thought Cinco De Mayo was to celebrate Corona's and Carne Asada!

"You TOO can conquer France!"

Might not qualify as an "extreme vacation adventure", but, is there a brochure?

Apparently, not *all* the Celts fled Gaul.
Some stayed and improved the Frankish stock....:))

So says the extremist chicken hawk, Richard Perle. I guess the bellicose draft evaders who sat Vietnam want us to take on France next?

Oh, and if a civilian who had never served in the Great War had warned about German Rearmament in say, 1937, would that have made him a "chickenhawk", too?

The whole "chickenhawk" line of argument is a shabby attempt by liberals to silence the debate. It doesn't sell here. Why don't you take it to another site where people are stupid enough to buy into it? Like DU, for instance.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

In my (arrogant) opinion, France went wussy -because- the Gauls were driven out....:)

They weren't quite driven out. The Bretons speak a Celtic language and are descended from Gauls.

Someday, it may even be dominant. I do not see this happening in my future.

I agree. Europe is wedded to a failed economic model. It's no coincidence that American leads the world both in freedom and military strength.

I'm more concerned they are on the verge of becoming a hybrid Eurosocialist-Islamist state, bearing the worst aspects of both.

I wonder if perhaps someone from saddam, al qaeda 'n friendz got on the phone to Chirac and Schroeder and gave them a clear warning. France and Germany must be much more infested with murderous fanatics than we. They are the weak horses...it seems likely to me they would capitulate to such threats. They are an obvious target for influencing US action...but that influence is history.

The EU could not even win "Junkyard Wars" let alone be dominant.

Forget the French reaction, we know what that will be (a muttered "merde" under their breath and some indignant diplomatic mumbling). But can you imagine how many sphincters are tightening at our own State Department reading this?

Expect our State Department internationalist weenies to begin attempting damage control on this, post-haste. The fact that Perle's pretty much right is beyond the point--at State, we must be nice to everyone!

I'm listening to Chirac right now on C-SPAN Radio, talking after his meeting with Blair. He's actually complaining that the atmosphere of the meeting was cordial!
