They weren't quite driven out. The Bretons speak a Celtic language and are descended from Gauls.

Unfortunately for their culture, those who remained were "Romanized", much like Great Britain's southern/eastern Celtic population.

My surname is the Latinized version of the ancient Pan-Celtic god Lug/Lugh. In Gaul, it was Lugus.
