2 Ground Zero design teams picked

Choices narrowed to Studio Daniel Libeskind and THINK

By Jan Herman
MSNBC

NEW YORK, Feb. 4 — As competing factions jockeyed to decide a Ground Zero template for the future, officials Tuesday narrowed their choice of urban-design proposals to two — one by Studio Daniel Libeskind and one by the THINK team. Libeskin’s design proposes a 1,776-foot tower and would make visible “the great slurry walls” that descend into the bedrock foundations of Ground Zero. THINK envisions a tower even higher, a lattice-work scaffolding that would soar 2,100 feet. Both towers would be the world’s tallest structure.

I think they are both awful! I really dislike the THINK one.

Time to go back to the drawing board.

This is what I suggest they need for any new design committee:

Why can't the American people choose the design? Why some stupid committee with a vested interest?

Thanks! They both look like crap, so I don't have a dog in this hunt

True, but then again so did the WTC before everyone got used to it.

If it has to be one of the two, I'd pick the German design. The latticework looks like crap.

Is the German one the one that looks like a block out of a Minbari city dropped into the middle of New York?

This cultural stuff is getting me more angry by the day. Why not just rename it the islamic american center.. It's so wrongheaded and PC..

These designs are like death in physical form.. It saddens me so much.

Both designs are lame, but your logic is utterly stupid.

What logic? This is viceral and emotional.

I agree completely. The design is a testament to the communist psychobabble currently infesting schools of architecture and urban planning.

The empty lattice structures should not be chosen. Then buildings built there should be real buildings with stuff in them.

Speaking of the UN building, these designs look like someone was trying to build a new UN headquarters.

Considering the WTO, you may not be too far off.

The German people are not our enemies, but in my experience are quite friendly and supportive of their Cold War ally. Schroeder is trying, in a Clintonesque manner, to latch onto poll numbers showing lack of German support for an Iraq attack to save his unpopular government. As the state election results this week showed, the German people, fooled in the last general election, have vowed not to be fooled again, with SPD losing by landslides.

As was true during the Cold War, the alleged anti-Americanism of most Europeans is exaggerated and what of it there is proves shallow, more emotional than real.

Schroeder is a foolish and weak man; judge the Germans after they have replaced him with a real leader.

Because it's owned privately, not publicly?
