Hi Howlin, I'm here
A sad day, indeed.
To: Howlin
I'm home unexpectedly today - I'm thankful to be able to watch it live, and alone. Kalpana bears an eerie resemblance to one of my nieces.

I'm here, too, watching it on Fox - I'm already crying - listening to one of the daughters of one of the Challenger astronauts.
I get so choked up with these type of events---

Thank you, Howlin, for the thread. Don't know what everyone else is watching but C-SPAN and NASA-TV (same feed) are the places to watch. No whispering heads like Rather, Jennings, Brokaw, etc. When will they learn to shut up?

I see there is an Army Aviator with the rank of Warrant Officer W1 and a 10th Mountain Division patch on his left sleeve and a nametag that says, McCool.

Aboard Columbia ~morning has broken~Romans Chapter 5
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and
danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling
mirth of sun-split clouds -- and done a hundred
things you have not dreamed of -- wheeled and
soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind
along, and flung my eager craft through footless
halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've
topped the windswept heights with easy grace
where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the
high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my
hand, and touched the face of God.
This poem was written by a young American, John Gillespie Magee, Jr., who flew with the Royal Canadian Air Force in England at the Start of WW II. He was killed shohrtly after he composed "High Flight."

Thank you and all the postees for this thread. I am at work today and not able to watch the memorial, but am able to look at my computer.
At least, GW's tears are genuine. (Unlike x42 at the Ron Brown funeral.)

Brian Williams to former astronaut,after memorial-" Did the President say the right words to comfort the families?" Unbelievably poor taste on William's part.
